A recent Twitter post fromWorld of Warcraftfeatured a detailed breakdown of the magic of the Black, Blue, Green, and Red dragonflights. Each of the pieces of concept art have color swatches, basic designs, and detailed features for each major aspect of the magical manifestations. The intricate reference sheets give artists a unified base for themagical powers of the dragonflights inWorld of Warcraftand gave players a look behind the curtain as to how the designs came to be.

Interestingly enough,World of Warcraftdid not show off the concept art for the time magic of the Bronze dragonflight. It gave no explanation for the exemption of the concept sheet. The sheet may not have been prepared, or there may have beensomethingWorld of Warcraftwanted to keep secret, such as a plot detail or spoiler. It is equally possible Blizzard simply forgot to share it, or have plans to do so in the future.

Nevertheless, players were fascinated by the detailed breakdown of the magic ofDragonflight. The Black dragonflight’s magic in particular was especially interesting, as it is different from what players have seen before. Historically, Black dragon magic was full of fire, magma, and instability. Now that the Black dragons ofWorld of Warcraftare entering a new era with Wrathion and Sabellian, it is fitting their magic is changing as well.

Many players were drawn to the consistency of theTitan Influence section of theWorld of Warcraftconcept art, however. Despite the variety between the magic, this section was consistently the same. Many especially latched on to the “Always 3” detail in regard to the spiraling energy found within each magical burst. Many askedWorld of Warcraftwhat the significance of the number three was to the dragons, wondering if it was simply a design choice or if there was deeper meaning to be gleaned from it. Curious fans won’t have to wait long to investigate for themselves–players will be able to see these magical concepts put in motion when they make their Dracthyr Evokers on November 15, and whenDragonflightreleases a couple of weeks later.

World of Warcraftis available now for PC.Dragonflightlaunches on November 28.
