One of the new daily quests inWorld of Warcraft’s next content update has players set up Malfurion and Tyrande in the past. Doing so helps preserve the timeline ofWorld of Warcraft, though it means players have to break Illidan’s heart in the process.Eon’s Fringe is a region in Thaldraszus that will become a daily quest hubonceWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.1.5 drops. These quests will allow players to travel through time, righting wrongs and preserving the timeline to prevent history from unraveling.RELATED:World of Warcraft Rewrites Controversial Alexstrasza QuestOne of these dailies sends players to well before the War of the Ancients, back when Tyrande Whisperwind and the Stormrage brothers were still young. Somehow, Illidan has acquired a poem written by Malfurion and given it to Tyrande, beginning a budding romance between them. It is up to players to help raise Malfurion’s spirits, collect some of Tyrande’s favorite flowers, and confront his brother about the deception, allowing the two to get together as they are supposed to.
Unfortunately for Illidan, his rejection by Tyrande is an important event in history. Doing so is the catalyst for him to get into Azshara’s inner circle during the War of the Ancients and become aDemon Hunter to aid the players inLegion. Malfurion, on the other hand, would have been so torn from being rejected that he may not have become a Druid powerful enough to save the world on multiple occasions.
World of Warcraftfans enjoyed seeing the youthful, comparatively-carefree side of these beloved characters. The love between Malfurion and Tyrande is one of the mostwholesome parts ofWorld of Warcraft, and many players adore the Kaldorei power couple. Some also pointed out that Illidan and Tyrande’s budding romance was based on a lie in the first place, so it was probably doomed from the start anyway.
Other fans said they were going to boycott this particular quest in solidarity with Illidan. There are plenty of players who adore the iconic Demon Hunter, and think he and Tyrande would be an amazing couple. Chromie, the belovedBronze Dragon character inWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflight, even agrees, saying she believes they would be cute together.
Alas, preserving history as it should be is the calling of the Bronze Dragonflight–and one that will be explored in detail in Patch 10.1.5. Players can expect to encounter tons of characters fromalternative versions ofWorld of Warcrafthistoryas they seek to stop the Infinite Dragonflight’s meddling from corrupting the timeline.
World of Warcraftis available now for PC.
