Summary
Action Points play a big role inFallout 76.They affect the amount of stamina the player has, how many shots they can do in VATS, and much more. It is a very important part of the game that shouldn’t be ignored. The last thing the player wants is to be caught short of breath in the middle of an intense fight.
Thankfully, there are lots of things that players can do to dramatically increase their AP, as well as things that reduce the amount of AP it costs to perform certain actions. From perks and buffs to armor and consumables, there’s a lot that can be done to improve the player’s AP.

Keep in mind that there are lots of ways to boost a player’s AP. This article will feature some of the best methods, but there are other ways to boost AP inFallout 76.
What Action Points Do
As mentioned above, Action Points affect a few crucial things in the game. The player’s AP bar is located on the bottom right side of the screen. To see the actual number of AP points the player has, head to stats in the Pip-Boy. The AP number will be on the lower right side.
AP has five primary uses; sprinting, jumping, using a jetpack, VATS, and melee attacks. For most players, VATS, jumping, using a jetpack, and sprinting are what matter the most. Upon leaving the vault for the first time, the player may feel like their character is extremely unfit as they can only run for short distances. This is all down to AP.

1The Two Primary Ways Of Aiding AP
Increase AP & Speed Up AP Regeneration
There are two ways of boosting a player’s AP: increasing the amount of AP a player has and increasing the refresh speed of the player’s AP. It’s important for players touse both AP boosting methods and AP regeneration speed increasesto get the most use out of their AP.
No matter how high the player’s AP is, at some point, every player will run out. When this happens, the player will need to wait for their AP to regenerate before continuing with their run or battle. There are a few things that players can do that will dramatically increase how fast the AP bar regenerates.

2Perks That Boost AP
A Few Well-Placed Special Points Can Really Help
Firstly, the AP stat is affected by the agility SPECIAL stat. Each point in agility increases the player’s AP by 10. In the level-up menu, the Cap for this is level 15. The other special stat that can impact AP is endurance. Each point in endurance reduces the number of Action Points it costs to sprint and jump.As for specific perks, the best onescan be seen below:
3

Nerd Rage
While Below 20% Health, Gain 40 Damage Resist, 20% Damage, and 15% AP Regen
Sprinting Consumes 40% Fewer Action Points
It’s worth noting that other perks can also help to boost a player’s AP.Perks like Rejuvenated and Slow Metabolizer can be very usefulfor those looking to speed up their AP refresh speed. When fully hydrated, players regenerate AP 35% faster than they normally would. By using Rejuvenated, that can be increased to 45% at rank 2. Some various foods and drinks affect player AP as well.
3Consumables That Boost AP
Short-Term AP Boosts
There arelots of consumables inFallout 76.From meds to foods, there’s a lot that players can take to give themselves various temporary boosts and buffs. From being able to do more critical hit damage to increasing the player’s AP refresh speed, there are lots of options. As for consumables that boost the players' AP, some of the best ones can be seen in the table below:
Sugar-Free Nukashine
+50% AP Regeneration, -80% Sprint Speed Cost For 2 Minutes
There are other AP-boosting consumables, butthe ones listed above are among the most popular. It is also possible to increase the benefits given by some of the items listed above by using things like mutations.
4Use Mutations
Mutations Are An Important Part Of The Game
There are lots of different mutations inFallout 76.Each mutation comes with benefits and negative side effects. Thankfully, by using certain perks, it’s possible to increase the positives and reduce the negatives that come with mutations.
Also, for those who don’t know,to keep mutations forever, be sure toequip rank 2of Starched Genes. As for the perks that increase the effectiveness of mutations, they can be seen below:

There are three mutations that players will want for AP boosts. The first is Herd Mentality. This mutation increases all SPECIAL stats by 2 when in a group. This boosts the player’s AP by 20. The second one is the Bird Bones mutation. One of the positives that comes with this mutation is a +4 to agility. This works out to 40 extra Action Points.
As for the third mutation that players should have, it’s a choice of two: Herbivore and Carnivore. Herbivore doubles the benefit gained from eating vegetarian foods, and Carnivore doubles the benefit from eating meat-based meals. Players can only have one of those mutations at any given time. It’s important to note that should the player take the Herbivore mutation, then meat-based meals will offer no benefits. The same goes for the Carnivore mutation with vegetable-based meals.

Doubling the benefits of an entire food group can be very beneficial. For example, the boost for Corn Soup would be doubled from a 3% to a 6% AP regeneration speed if the player is using the Herbivore mutation. It’s worth looking into what food group best suits the player’s needs before taking a mutation serum.
5Play An Instrument
A Fine-Tuned Bonus
Instruments can be found all over Appalachia. They can also bebuilt at the player’s CAMPprovided that they know the plan.Playing an instrument for around 30 seconds will grant the player the Fine-Tuned bonus. This boosts the player’s AP regeneration speed by 25% for 60 minutes.
This can be very useful, especially when used alongside other AP regeneration buffs. It’s an ideal way for newer players who don’t yet have the luxury of Caps to buy various chems and foods to give their AP a temporary boost.

6Armor That Boosts AP
Extra Boosts While Wearing Armor
Armor can be moddedto give each piece an AP boost. For regular armor, two mods increase the player’s AP. They are Lighter Build and Ultra-Light Build.Lighter Build gives the player a +2 to AP for each modded piece. The Ultra-Light Build mod gives a +5 to AP. As for Power Armor, there are several options for AP boosts:
Another great way to increase the player’s AP through armor is to use Unyielding armor. This gives the player up to a +3 for all SPECIAL stats (excluding endurance) while the player is at low health. As mentioned, the agility SPECIAL stat directly impacts the amount of AP the player has. So, a plus 3 to AP would give the player an extra 30 AP.
