Another PlayStation VR2 launch title has been announced, as HandyGames has confirmed its city-builderTownsmen VRis coming to PS5. ThePlayStation VR2is quickly approaching its February 22 launch date. With just a month left, PlayStation is working overtime to confirm which virtual reality games will be available on the platform to start.Townsmen VRmay not be new, but the more games available the stronger the PlayStation VR2’s launch will be.
Townsmen VRwas first available in early access as far back as 2021, released across headsets including theMeta Quest 2, HTC Vive, and others. It officially launched on Steam on June 20, 2025, and has been well-received by VR enthusiasts since. InTownsmen VR, players take on the role of a godlike figure, helping their Townies build and expand across 13 different islands and archipelagos. To do so, players will have to build up, battle, research, and grow into a proper empire.

Now HandyGames is bringing its VR god-game to PlayStation VR2.Townsmen VRwill officially launch on PS5 for the PlayStation VR2 headset at launch on February 22. Not only will it be available digitally, but it will also have a physical release made in partnership withpublisher THQ Nordic. WhileTownsmen VRhas had some trouble finding an audience on PC, HandyGames and THQ Nordic must see an opportunity to reach a large audience being a part of the PSVR2’s launch.
There’s no indication, at this point in time, that HandyGames is expanding or adding content for the PlayStation VR2 version ofTownsmen VR. The game will be optimized for the new PlayStation VR2 headset, of course. It will also add functionality to support thePlayStation VR2’s haptic controllers.
It’s somewhat surprising to seeTownsmen VRannounced for thePlayStation VR2 launch lineup, if only because of how close it is to launch. PlayStation went out of its way to confirm the PlayStation VR2’s launch lineup just last week. If there were more games to come, it may have been better to wait. Perhaps that meansTownsmen VR’s announcement was a surprise, or that HandyGames wasn’t sure until now it would be able to launch the game on schedule.
Townsmen VRis just one of more than two dozen virtual reality games confirmed for the PlayStation VR’s launch. Launch titles includePavlov VR, the return ofThumper,NFL Pro Era,Tetris Effect: Connected, and boxing gameCreed: Rise to Glory - Championship Edition. Suffice to say, there should be a great option for everyone choosing to purchase the PlayStation VR at launch.
