Post-apocalypse settings are all the rage, and Ubisoft capitalized on that withTom Clancy’s The Divisionin 2016. The game introduced a world that had been ravaged by a pandemic, and put players in control of special agents who had been activated to take back control of Manhattan. The sequel then brought agents to Washington D.C.The upcomingDivisionmobile titlewill also be taking place in these locales, and will further expand the events of the mainline titles.
Tom Clancy’s The Divisionhas built up an interesting version of the United States that will likely be explored further in a third entry. However, there is so much more to the world than a couple of cities in the United States. This pandemic affected other parts of the planet, and Ubisoft’s series should explore just what that looks like.

The Division Has Spent Two Games in the United States
The Divisionintroduced players to a Manhattanthat had been decimated by a viral pandemic known as The Dollar Flu. This disease spread through New York City on Black Friday and threw the city into shambles. The US quickly put its major cities under quarantine, and sleeper agents that work for The Division were activated to restore order. In Manhattan, these agents learned more about this pandemic and discovered a plot to decimate the human race.
The secondDivisiongame brought agents to Washington D.C. where they set up shop in the White House and embarked across the city to beat back gangs that had overtaken the streets. The story further expanded the world ofThe Divisionand answered more questions about the pandemic. It even had the players return to New York City in the “Warlords of New York” expansion that followed the events of the two games.
There is a mobile game coming out that is set in the world ofTom Clancy’s The Division,as well as aspin-off title known asHeartland. Both of these games are seemingly set in the United States, with the mobile game apparently expanding the events of the two mainline games, though there is little known aboutHeartlandsave for the fact it will be free-to-play. There is no news about a third mainline entry, but the success of the first two will likely lead toThe Division 3.
It is Time to See What the Rest of the World Looks Like
There is a whole world out there that has also been affected by the viral pandemic. Even if the disease did not spread throughout every country, the sudden decimation of the United States government would have repercussions for the world’s economy. Not only that, other countries would surely take advantage of the United States' destruction. These are events that should be shown inanotherTom Clancy’s The Divisiontitle, as they would expand out the universe’s lore.
The Divisionhas not shown playerswhat the rest of the world looks like, but a series of collectible audio logs known as the Langley Report inTom Clancy’s The Division 2fill in some gaps. This report details that major countries like Canada, India, China, and much of South America have also been affected. Other countries like Japan and members of the European Union were able to weather the storm, but they are suffering from resource shortages due to the collapse of their trading partners.
A lot of the world outside the United States seems to also be collapsing inTom Clancy’s The Division, and players should be sent out to help stabilize these regions. Letting players see this stabilization effort across the globe wouldfurther build out the world ofThe Divisionand give players more unique post-pandemic locales to explore.
