THQ Nordic’s parent company, Embracer Group, has announced the acquisition ofMetro Exodusdeveloper 4A Games, which includes both development studios under the 4A Games branch in the Ukraine and Malta.

Announced in a Press Release, the Acquisition has an equity value of $45 million and is part of an ongoing strategy for Embracer Group. Embracer Group currently houses over 170 owned franchises includingGoat Simulator,Dead Island, andDarksiders, WhileDead Island 2has yet to see a release since its announcement, bothGoat SimulatorandDarksidershave seen releases of games this gen, withDarksiders Genesisreleasing last year.

The Acquisition is one of many studios now under Embracer Group. Previously, Embracer Group purchased DECA Games, Pow Wow Entertainment, andImmortal Realms: Vampire Warsdeveloper, Palindrome Interactive. Embracer Group is made of up six divisions currently involving Saber Interactive, Koch Media, Coffee Stain Holding, DECA Games, Amplifier Invest, and perhaps most well known, THQ Nordic. Meanwhile 4A Games will work under the Saber Interactive division where it is currently overseeing a new IP and a new multiplayer game. Fans of theMetroseries can breathe a sigh of relief as 4A Games will still continue to work on theMetrofranchise as well and the developers excitement for next gen consoles, could mean some great things for the series.

Meanwhile THQ Nordic has been quite busy in 2020, the return of the THQ brand also meant IP’s returning as well. Recently, the company announced the surprise return ofKingdom’s of Amular: Re-Reckoning, a remastered version of the original last-gen game. The remaster will feature updated graphics, more refined game plat and all the DLC previously released for the game.Kingdoms of Amular: Re-Reckoningis releasing this Septemberwith new DLC expected for the game in 2021.

THQ Nordic also announced the return ofDestroy All HumansandSpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydratedthis year as well, both games were released in the summer and if successful enough, could warrant more investment in both franchises in the future.

Meanwhile theMetroseries continues to be a successful franchise for 4A Games. The company’s latest release,Metro Exodusfinally released on Steam earlier in the year and a Nintendo Switch port of of bothMetro 2033andMetro: Last Lightalso released this year in theMetro Reduxcollection in February.Metro Exodusalso saw additional DLC released with thesecond expansion called Sam’s Storyearlier this year.

Metro Exodusis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, Google Stadia and Xbox One
