A gamer has made a comparison image that shows a stark difference in cosmetic DLC prices betweenDisney Dreamlight Valleyand Electronic Arts’The Sims 4. One of these two titles offers more bang for the players' buck, and it exposes aproblem with pricing forDisney Dreamlight Valley’s cosmetics.
Disney Dreamlight Valleyreleased as an early access game in September 2022. Since then, the game has surrounded itself in controversy when it comes to its prices for cosmetic items. Since players already have to purchase the game to access the early access version of the title, the DLC offered has often been stated to be overpriced for what is very lacking content. Some might even say thatDisney Dreamlight Valleyis rather predatorywith its prices.

Recently, aDisney Dreamlight Valleyplayer named chellekathryn on Reddit highlighted this issue with a comparative image that puts the Summer Vacation Scrooge outfit’s price against one of variousexpansion packs offered byThe Sims 4. WhileThe Sims 4pack offers a myriad of attire for the game’s characters to wear and tons of furniture that can be put in the player’s houses at the cost of $9.99, allDisney Dreamlight Valleyoffers players for the slightly lower pricetag of $8.99 is a single outfit for Scrooge McDuck. It’s worth keeping in mind that Scrooge is also a non-playable character in the game, which means that, unlikeThe Sims 4,this cosmetic will have no tangible effect for the player.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time players have had to face this issue. Several of the commenters on the post voiced their frustration at the pricing of cosmetics in the game. One person even remarked, “You know it’s bad when EA is giving the better deal.” Other players brought up other comparisons betweenThe Sims 4andDisney Dreamlight Valley, such as the fact that the former has unlimited item slots and even has more variety for cosmetics and item sets. It’s worth noting that some players think thatThe Sims 4’s DLC is overpricedas well, makingDisney Dreamlight Valley’s prices even more outrageous.
The Reddit user also highlighted that DLCs inDisney Dreamlight Valleydon’t offer much in terms of permanent effects. For example, the aforementioned Scrooge outfit will apply to a character that never leaves his own store, meaning that the player wouldn’t even see this outfit most of the time. Meanwhile,The Sims 4’s packs usually come with new gameplay features and professions for inhabitants. Some players are holding out hope that Gameloft may change the prices in the near future.
Disney Dreamlight Valleyis available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
