Summary
One frustratedStarfieldplayer has taken to social media to lambast the fact that going invisible in the game makes their ADS weapon crosshair disappear, making precise aiming next to impossible. Their grievance prompted agreement among the vocal portion of the fandom, adding to the gameplaycomplaints thatStarfieldplayers raised about the RPGto date.
There are currentlythree ways to turn invisible inStarfield, with the most accessible option being to equip a piece of gear with the Chameleon trait. Since the game uses randomly generated loot, many players will stumble upon some Chameleon armor before they’re able to turn invisible any other way. Alternatively, investing the maximum four points in the Concealment skill will unlock the Chameleon effect permanently, making the protagonist imperceptible whenever they crouch. There’s also the Void Form power that bestows invisibility upon the player no matter their posture, but unlike the other two options, unlocking it usually requires dozens of hours of playtime, not accounting for New Game Plus.

No matter the method, turning invisible inStarfieldmakes aiming down the sights more difficult, as the effect will extend to whatever weapon the character is holding. Taking to Reddit, user SbeveGobs recently criticized this behavior as annoying, rhetorically asking how something like this made its way past the testing phase. A vocal subset of the fandom reacted to their complaint with agreement, arguing that invisible crosshairs make stealth builds needlessly bothersome.
Starfield Laser Pointers and Scopes Allow For More Accurate Aiming While Invisible
Other players offered advice for minimizing this issue, with the most straightforward of their proposals being to install a laser pointer mod, of which the game has several. Unlike weapon models, laser dots inStarfieldcannot turn invisible. Alternatively, replacing a holographic crosshair with an actual scope also circumvents this effect, as the reticle of any such attachment will still be properly displayed when using the ADS mode.
Disappearing Crosshairs in Starfield Are Likely Working as Intended
While Bethesda startedramping up the frequency ofStarfieldupdatesin recent days, there is currently no indication that the studio intends to address this complaint moving forward. Seeing how turning invisible came with the same drawback inFallout 4, it’s likely that the disappearing holographic sights inStarfieldare intended behavior, possibly implemented as a balancing mechanic that prevents stealth builds from being too powerful. That notwithstanding, mods could still address this perceived issue in the future, although none presently do.
This particular complaint isn’t the only point of criticism that the fandom recently directed at some of the RPG’s weapons; earlier in November, another player pointed out howtheir character’s fingers clip through every single pistol inStarfield.
