Most modern shooters haven’t changed much since juggernauts likeHalohave dropped. The formula has become repetitive, with few changes that separate titles. However, some shooters bring something new to the genre and are getting a lot of attention now. One ofthese popular, innovative shootersisSplitgate, which takes the genre and flips it on its head. It offers a new dynamic to the formula: portals that players for strategy, damage, or just getting to safety quicker.

Splitgatemay look like a knockoff ofHalo, and has some similarities in itsweapon, designs, and gunplay. However, the portal aspect ofSplitgatedoes take a while for players to get used to, and each map plays differently. For example, the fan-favorite mapStadium is probably whereSplitgateshines the most, as it will have players fighting harder. Using the portals will make or break a game, so using these tips to set up the portals should help players win more often and have a higher kill count.

5Center Walls

Some players would think the center area is probably the worst location, because it’s out in the open. However, if players go to the level beneath it, they’ll locate the walls. Before setting an endpoint for the portal, players shouldlook for populated spots or areas that have high traffic.Set a starting point that’s hidden away, but that players can still shoot through.

Even though players are recommended to move aroundall the timeinSplitgate, placing portals in this area allows players to slow down and get more targets. Not many opponents will know where the fire is coming from, and because of that, the player will be able to stay there longer. It’s a good place for players to get early points, since others will be going elsewhere most often. Portals in center walls also provide a lot of protection while offering a good view of the map. However, players should take into account that enemies inSplitgatecan come out of nowhere as well. While portals placed here offer more protection, players should keep an eye out still for enemies.

4Long Vertical Walls

These walls are located on the north and south sides of the map, and can be accessed by both the lower and top levels. They have interesting advantages, dependingon what modegamers choose to play. To get the most kills at one time, players should try to use this area more often, because the upper level gives a good view of the map. Placing portals on high vertical wallscan help players get out of a sniper’s sights quickly, and can allow players to sneak in shots.

That’s whereSplitgatedoes well. Players don’t just use portals for one purpose, but for many, and maps like Stadium require that players use them for more than just shooting enemies. On top of that, players can use a portal they’ve set up on the long wall to get snipers, and to achieve better angles that otherwise would have been harder to hit. Players should be sure to check their corners before setting themselves up in the area, because a portal may open that the player won’t see, resulting in them getting taken down themselves.

3The Cubes

These four cubes set up in the center of the map are good for looking out of and not into. Because they’re in the middle of the map and out in the open, setting endpoint to look into is a bad idea, since other players can pick enemies off in this area quickly. On the other hand,if players use it as an endpoint on the other side to look out of, it can give them a better view of one of the most populated spots on the map. With that, players can safely shoot other players at a distance, provided they are in a good area to safely set a start point.

IfSplitgateplayers use portals in busy areas, the outcome can be a lot of kills. Additionally, the cubes make good spots for players to place endpoints for portals to escape quickly while being shot at. In general, they allow players to get out of the action or to be a part of it from a distance.

2Tunnel Walls

Located on the upper level of the Stadium across from the circular plateau at the top of the map, this area is great for many reasons, but getting kills is the primary one. The name of the game forSplitgateis for players knowing where to put their portals, and veterans ofSplitgatewill understand thatplacing these portalsin appropriate places benefits them better.

These walls are located in the upper area of the tunnel, so players can get some kills from sniping while remaining hidden. If there are any enemies on top, players can easily pick them off and get that area covered. It’s a tucked-away area that players may not think twice about, so they can use that as an advantage to go up there and get some easy kills.

1Slanted Wall

Even thoughSplitgateis a rather easy gamefor new playersto enjoy, it does have that learning curve that is absent in most first-person shooters. Most players aren’t used to using portals in this way However, once players master them,Splitgatebecomes as fluid as games likeHalo.Placing portals on slanted walls requires players to be somewhat good at the game, because they are situated on an angle. Located on the north and south side and right above the main level, players will have an interesting time getting kills.

The best part about this location is that it’s hard for enemies to get players that are using them to look or jump out of. This forces enemies to go to the player’s spot to get them. By the time the enemy gets there, though, the player is long gone, so it’s a good idea for players to use this spot as often as they can.
