The day of announcements for The Walt Disney Company started off with a bang as Lucasfilm revealed the final trailer of the upcomingStar Wars: Andorseries at D23 Expo. With the series’ premiere right around the corner, fans expected to get a new look at Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor fromRogue One. Not only did the trailer offer a glimpse into Andor’s journey, it also confirmed that the nextStar Warsseries will drop three episodes simultaneously on premiere day, September 21.
The newStar Wars: Andortrailer dives deep into the world of the Rebellion. Luna’s Andor takes center stage once again, but there is a wider view of his journey and the hurdles he will face along the way. The D23 Expo is a joint event for Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and 20th Century Studios, and while thenewStar Wars: Andortrailerwas the first reveal on Saturday, fans have been promised more from all studios, including some big reveals.

It is already known thatStar Wars: Andoris aprequel toRogue Onethat will offer fans a detailed account of how Luna’s Andor went on to become a part of the Rebellion. “Spies, saboteurs, assassins… we’ve all done terrible things on behalf of the Rebellion,” Andor is heard saying as the new trailer begins. Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael meets with him at some sort of a secret location, to hire him for something much bigger, seemingly developing the rebel forces. Faye Marsay’s Vel Sartha also reveals that they’ve chosen to fight “against the dark.” And that’s when things seem to pick up pace.
“There is an organized rebel effort,” discovers Denise Gough’s Dedra Meero, who doesn’t seem too impressed with the fact that people are standing against the Order. She deploys a team to “get a hunt started.” The rest of the action-packed trailer offers glimpses of what’s to come, with a look at the politics at play and an evident battle between both sides. The rebels keep getting stronger, and even seem to obtain weapons that the Order uses.
It remains to be seen how much of Andor’s journey will the series cover before connecting the dots withRogue One, where Andor sacrifices himself to secure the plans for the Death Star. It was revealed earlier that there would be a time jump involved between almost every episode, and the series will have a second season, with the finale directly connecting to the plot ofRogue One, which was released in 2016.Star Wars: Andorwill take fans back to the time of the Empire, and even brings back Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma, the leader of the Rebel Alliance. The character first appeared in1983’sReturn of the Jedi.
