Sons of the Foresthas an expansive crafting process, similar toThe Forest. Crafting is a way to get items and resources and upgrade weapons using things found around the island. Despite being a horror game, crafting really hones in on the survival aspect, and players can hunt animals, build bases, garden, and make their tools.
A notable upgrade is the inventory holds a lot more than players of the first game are used to. Players can experiment with more crafting recipes and options and gather the needed ingredients once they learn them. Crafting is an art in itself, and almost everything other than ammo, collectibles, and key items can be crafted, including utility items like light sources and DIY weapons. How to Craft
Crafting occurs in the inventory, accessed by clicking “I.” The inventory canhold a surprising amount of itemsand materials, which are all laid out around the crafting square in the center. Recipes are learned as items are picked up, and whenever a new one is added, there is a pop-up message on the left side of the screen.
Add an item or ingredient to the center by left-clicking it to start crafting. This automatically adds it to the crafting section, and the gear in the corner will light up. If players hover over the gear, it will list the possible mix of ingredients to create something using that item. After adding the necessary ingredients, click on the gear, and the player character will assemble the item. From there, they can equip oreat it (if edible)or store it for later.

Crafting ingredients are found throughout the forest, so exploring is the best way to gather materials quickly. Many recipes will use the same items, including but not limited to sticks, rope, rocks of varying sizes, and tape. Players should pick up as much as possible to always have things on hand when they want to craft something. Certainingredients are key itemsand will only be found once and can be used multiple times, like the utility knife, flashlight, chainsaw, and can opener.
