Fighting rogueliteSifuseemed like a rather unique game from its first trailer. Rather than having the player reset at the start of a level or the game when they die, instead they increase in age exponentially, eventually having to restart the game once they reach an age of over 70.Sifuhas seen positive reception from both critics and playerssince its release, as the game was one of many anticipated releases in February 2022.
Sifu’splot is a simple revenge story to begin with, following a young man who survives a raid on a martial arts school and decides to take revenge on those who killed his sifu. The game’s story takes place in modern-day China, relying heavily on an influence of Chinese culture in both thecombat and design ofSifu. Due to this clear connection to China, fans of the game were surprised to find out that there wasn’t initially a Mandarin Chinese voice option.

However, a new update looks to change this. Developer Sloclap has been working onimproving and updatingSifusince launch, bringing balance patches and new options, with the latest of these being the addition of Chinese Mandarin voice-overs which are now live on the Epic Games and PlayStation Stores. AsSifuis currently a PC and Sony exclusive, there’s no word on when an Xbox version of the game will be arriving.
It seems like Sloclap went the extra mile to ensure the voice-overs were authentic though, with a mention in the tweet posted to the developer’s Twitter on the use of Shanghai studios for the recording sessions. One Twitter user said that this is a “perfect excuse to play it again,” while others were hoping for different updates toSifu. A difficulty option is something many players have discussed, so that the game does not become monotonous once it has been beaten.
It has already been confirmed thatSifuwill be adding difficulty options, alongside some accessibility options for players. Both of these have been praised as great quality of life additions to the game, though so far there has been no official confirmation on when these updates will be brought toSifu. Considering the release of previous patches though, it’s unlikely fans will have to wait for too long.
Sifuis available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
