Sandra Bullock has recently recalled a dangerous scene where she expressed that she genuinely feared for co-star Daniel Radcliffe’s life while filming their latest movie,The Lost City. The brand-new film makes its theatrical debut today and is bringing forth a new combination of genres that audiences haven’t seen for quite some time now.

Radcliffe’s character inParamount’sThe Lost City, Fairfax, is described as an “eccentric billionaire who funds a death-defying mission to South America." Fairfax ultimately ends up kidnapping romance novelist Loretta Sage, played by Bullock. Fairfax is convinced that Sage’s most recent book,The Lost City of D, contains encrypted clues that have led him to believe that the fictional world she created is in fact real and that she knows exactly how to get there. Sage’s fate ends up being inthe hands of Channing Tatum’s Alan Caprison, her slightly foolish yet incredibly charming cover model who portrays the main character in her book series, Dash McMahon.

In a recent interview withEntertainment Weekly, the cast ofThe Lost Cityhad the chance to reminisce about some of the more scary and even somewhat life-threatening stunts they performed while shooting on location in the Dominican Republic. Directors of the film, Aaron and Adam Nee, expressed that they were fearful that Radcliffe would pull out of production immediately. They emphasized, “I think Adam and I thought, ‘Oh no, we’ve just gotten Daniel here, and we’re going to throw him in the ocean.” Sandra Bullock ended up correcting them both, clarifying, “And now, we’re going to kill him.”

Although the rest of the cast and crew may have been a bit nervous regarding how much trouble Radcliffe was really down for, the star ultimately admitted that he really enjoyed playing the villain on set. He went on to add that he believes that playing the villain does come with its perks, stating, “the rest of the cast did quite grueling physical shoots, and I was having a very chill time.” It seemed as though it was great fun for Radcliffe to experiment with not only portraying a more evil-ridden character, but to also be able to play offco-stars Bullock and Tatum’s chemistryas well.

Due to COVID-19 and the overall pandemic, theaters in particular have been hit hard. So much so that the only films that seem to show in theaters nowadays are the latest Marvel or DC superhero films or strictly horror. However, Paramount’sThe Lost Cityexplores the notion of romance and pairs it with intense physical stunts along with comedic undertones. The movie was directed by Adam and Aaron Nee and was inspired by a screenplay they co-wrote along with Oren Uziel and Dana Fox.

Radcliffe portraying the villainFairfax in the film is the total opposite role of the heroic Potter that fans are used to seeing him as. Therefore, it will be quite interesting for fans to see Radcliffe sink his teeth into being evil and for them to witness him not always doing the correct, moral thing for once on-screen.

The Lost Cityis now playing in theaters.
