There has been no shortage of anticipation and excitement over theStar Warsfranchise during the past few years, thanks in part to the hit Disney Plus series,The Mandalorian, and more recently, the slate of announcedStar Warsgames. Currently, there are at least seven confirmed titles in development, including Respawn’sStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2and Ubisoft’s open-world title. Now, rumors point to a possibleStar WarsMMO underway based onThe Mandalorian.Last year saw the establishment of Lucasfilm Games following the end of EA’s 10-yearStar Warsexclusivity deal. Since then, studios ranging from Quantic Dream to Massive Entertainment announced a number of ambitious projects, including an upcomingStar Warsproject from Amy Hennig’s Skydance New Media. So far, the franchise looks to be off to a promising start in 2022 already, especially with the recentLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagabeing one of the most successful projects of the year so far. Nevertheless, the new rumors around aMandalorianMMO indicate that gamers could expect more fromStar Wars.RELATED:LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Mandalorian Season 2 DLC Icons LeakAccording to Skullzi and prominent leaker Nick Baker, the supposedMandaloriangame may be an Xbox exclusive being developed by Zenimax Online Studios. Baker first indicated that aMandaloriangame may be in development back in 2021, and now Skullzi’s anonymous sources suggest the game will likely be an Xbox project. Although no official details have been revealed yet, the studio had already announced thata new Zenimax Online Studios IP is in the works. Of course, there’s no real indication that it’s aStar Warstitle, but it remains a possibility, especially considering these renewed rumors.
But this isn’t the first time for a bounty hunter-centricStar Warsgame. Almost over a decade ago, LucasArts was working on anUncharted-like action-adventure game centered around the early days of Boba Fett. TitledStar Wars 1313,the project was first unveiled to the world only to be canceled entirely with Disney’s acquisition of the franchise and the following closure of Lucas Arts. Despite its cancellation years ago, the popularity ofThe Mandalorianhas renewed conversations around the idea of a Mandalorian-based video game. Now, amidst the latest MMO rumors, these conversations may continue to grow stronger.
However, as there’s no official announcement about such a project in development, it’s worth taking these rumors with a grain of salt. Although considering that the upcoming remake ofStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicis a PS5 exclusive, it would make sense that Xbox may look to counter this with its ownStar Warsexclusive. Either way, only time will tell how true these rumors will turn out to be.
