Capcom was recently the victim of a major hack, with employee personal information stolen and information on the company’s upcoming projects leaked online. The Capcom leak includes information on what fans can expect from the company’s hugely successfulResident Evilfranchise, like what it has in store for 2021’sResident Evil 8.
The data, compiled on ResetEra, claims thatResident Evil 8will have a current-gen release. Capcom previously suggested that it was looking into the possibility of releasingResident Evil 8on current-generation consoles as well as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and now it seems that is indeed what’s happening with the game. As for when fans will actually get to play the game, the leak indicates that theResident Evil 8release date will be sometime in April of 2021.

However, fans may get to tryResident Evil 8prior to its planned April 2021 launch. Apparently, aResident Evil 8demois in the works, though it’s unclear when exactly it will be available. Capcom has used demos to great effect in the past, with itsResident Evil 7: Beginning Hourdemo generating significant excitement for that game. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what the company pulls off with aResident Evil 8demo, if it does indeed materialize.
Another big piece ofResident Evil 8news from the leak points to the game possibly getting a battle royale-style multiplayer mode of some kind. The project is referred to internally as “Project Highway/Village Online,” indicating that it has something to do withResident Evil 8. Perhaps it will be a completely standalone release, or maybe it will be tied toResident Evil 8in the same way thatResident Evil: Resistanceis tied to theResident Evil 3remake. Until official information from Capcom comes to light, though, all fans can do is speculate.
Resident Evil 8wasn’t the onlyResident Evilproject mentioned in the big Capcom leak. AResident Evil 4Oculus Quest portis also reportedly in development, though more details on that are hard to come by. It’s possible theResident Evil 4VR port will be based on the rumoredResident Evil 4remake, but it’s also possible that it will be based on the original version ofRE4. Whatever the case may be, more information should come to light in the months ahead.
Assuming theResident Evil 8release date leak is accurate, all of this info should be confirmed or denied within the next six months or so.
Resident Evil 8is confirmed to be in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with current-gen versions rumored.
