Although the continued stories of Capcom’s flagship horror franchise are proving there’s still life left in the series,Resident Evil 2 Remakehas shown that there’s every reason to revisit the classic entries and bring them into the modern gaming era. Asone of the best horror games of the last console generation, sitting up there with the likes ofOutlastandAlien Isolation, the 2019 reimagining ofRE2was met with enormous praise. While it’s generally a scary game that’s mainly rooted in reality, sometimes people will add something a little outlandish to the mix.
That’s what modder Agent Smith has done. A new custom add-on forResident Evil 2has been uploaded to Nexus Mods. Called “Claire Supergirl,” it pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin, turning Claire Redfield into the iconic superhero. It even comes with its own lore, saying that Supergirl has kryptonite in her necklace that she can’t remove, which explains away her inability to use her superpowers. Essentially, it’s therefore just a model swap, but it still looks pretty cool.

While Agent Smith doesn’t specify, it’s possible that the character model is based off theSupergirlTV show starring Melissa Benoistthat ran from 2015 to October 2021. TheRE2version does have the same blonde hair as the TV version. The modder has made the Claire Supergirl model available either with or without the cape, though they do recommend downloading the “no cape” file for now, as the cape add-on is still a work in progress.
What’s interesting about this mod is that, despite being a replacement for Claire Redfield, it’s actually not based off of her, according to the description. Supposedly, it replaces Elza Walker, or at least her costume. For those who don’t know,Elza Walker was a cut character fromResident Evil 2, who was originally going to be the main protagonist of the sequel before Claire was put in instead. Walker was a motorcycle racer and student at Raccoon City University. Sadly, she didn’t make the cut, but her backstory was largely left intact and used for Redfield instead.
There are manyResident Evil 2modsbeing developed by a dedicated and talented community of creators. The vanilla game is already a beloved entry in the series, and while the likes ofResident Evil Villageshow that Capcom is interested in pushing things forward, the two remakes, along with a rumored remake of the fourth game, show that revisiting the original games can yield successful results as well.
