Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s latest 7-Star Tera Raid event is here, and it brings an extremely popular starter from the Kanto region.

WithScarlet & Violet’s Venusaur raidalready being a massive success, the developers have a couple of more interesting 7-star Tera Raid events in store for fans, with the first one featuring Blastoise with a Mightiest Mark. While players can only catch Blastoise once during the event, considering that it is a 7-Star Tera Raid, it can be extremely difficult to win the battle. Here is everything players need to know about beating Mighty Blastoise inPokemon Scarlet & Violet.

How To Start Mighty Blastoise 7-Star Tera Raid

The event started onMarch 5 at 4 PM PST and players have until Tuesday, March 12 at 4:59 PM PST to catch Blastoise. Additionally, it should be noted that players can catch Blastoise only once during the event.

To start the 7-Star Tera Raid, players will need to meet a few prerequisites. Precisely, they will need to ensure they havebeaten the base game and completed the Academy Ace Tournament. This will trigger a conversation with Jacq, which will unlock 5-star Tera Raids for them.

Once that’s done, players can take part in around 105-Star Tera Raids to unlock 6-Star Tera Raids. Finding 5-Star Tera Raids can be tricky since they aren’t as frequent as the other raids, so the best way is to head to as many raid markers as players can. With 6-Star Tera ready already spawning in Paldea and beyond, players will be able to access the event-exclusive 7-star Tera Raids.

Best Counters & Weaknesses For Mightiest Mark Blastoise

While Blastoise is a Water-type, making it weak to Grass and Electric-types, theSteel Tera-typechanges the battle dynamic significantly. Players might be well aware of the same type attack bonus (STAB) which gives a damage boost to attacks of the same type as the base type of the Pokemon. Since the Tera-type is different than the base-type, it means that STAB applies to both of them. So, Blastoise benefits from STAB for both Water and Steel-type attacks. As far as its vulnerabilities go, Steel Tera Blastoise will be weak to moves that are weak to Steel Type. So players should focus onFighting, Fire, and Ground-type moves.

That being said, simply relying on the weaknesses is not enough to take down Mighty Blastoise. For instance, bothFire and Ground types are weak to Water types, so Blastoise’s attacks can be lethal if players stick to those. Additionally, its Rain Dish ability will recover 6.25% HP during Heavy Rain after every turn.

Mighty Blastoise’s possible moveset can be Flash Cannon, Rain Dance, Surf, Hydro Pump, Iron Defense, and Ice Spinner.

Countering Steel-type Resistances

What makes things even trickier is the humongous list of Steel-type resistances. That is, Steel-types incur less damage from Normal, Steel, Grass, Ice, Bug, Rock, Fairy, Flying, Dragon, Poison, and Psychic-type moves. Thankfully, there are a few other counters that work pretty well for it.

Coming to the best Counters for Mighty Blastoise, as one might have guessed,Poliwrath seems to be the best choiceto deal with Blastoise. Firstly, it resists both Water and Steel-type attacks, and to make things even better, its Water Absorb ability ensures that players end up getting healed by Blastoise’s deadly Water-type moves.

Furthermore, Poliwrath’s Fighting-type ensures that its attacks are super effective against Blastoise while benefiting from STAB at the same time. Players should stick to Fighting Tera-type, as it can deal pretty much a knockout blow once players have whittled down its HP.

Alternatives To Poliwrath

Considering Poliwrath is a great fit for this raid, it is probably not worth it to choose any other Pokemon. Anothergood alternative to Poliwrath is Rapid Strike Urshifu, which has the same typing but without the Water Absorb Ability. While Urshifu’s Unseen Fist Ability is good, it might not be that useful here.

Likewise,Aqua Breed Paldena Tauroscan also be a decent choice for the same reasons. For these two as well, the preferred Tera type is fighting. Alternatively, some players can also try using the likes ofVaporeon, Umbreon, Iron Hands, and Annihilape, which although not as effective as Poliwrath, can prove to be just enough for the battle.

Can Mighty Blastoise Be Shiny In 7 Star Tera Raids?

Players who are looking for a shiny variant of the Steel-Tera Blastoise are out of luck as these 7-Star Tera Raid events are shiny-locked. That being said, it shouldn’t be that hard to get a shiny Blastoise, asSquirtle is readily available in theIndigo Disk DLC,precisely in the Canyon Biome. The only catch is that it won’t have the Mightiest Mark, but that’s just cosmetic in nature after all.
