One incredibly luckyPokemon Scarletplayer who just began hunting for shiny Pokemon ended it almost immediately when one appeared next to their position on the map. Hunting for shiny Pokemon, also known as shinies, is an investment that can take hours and have any number of outcomes when players do find one, includinggreat disappointment when a Pokemon gets awaywith no way of knowing when another one will cross the player’s path.
Shiny hunting has been a long tradition in thecommunity, with many finding a thrill in collecting rare variants of Pokemon whose color scheme differs from others on top of completing the regional Pokedex in each game. Some even put in the time to make sure they not only complete the Pokedex but also take hundreds of hours to fill it with all theshiny variations found inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Reddit user Setagawa1078 had this very thing happen to them as shown by a 30-second clip they posted on thePokemon Scarlet andVioletsubreddit. It shows them bringing up the map to look at an area containing a pocket of Maschiff, small dog-like Pokemon that later evolve to become Masbosstiff. Setagawa1078 investigates the area and discovers in the midst of a handful of Maschiff that one is a shiny. The clip concludes with them saving the game, presumably to make sure that they get another opportunity to catch the shiny on the chance they mess up.
While the chances of this happening are quite low, it does show how oftenshinies appear while exploring inPokemonScarlet and Violetwhen compared to previous entries, with some feeling as if this increase takes the luster out of collecting them. It’s a valid viewpoint to have because although the clip itself is rather funny, it does come with a rather deflated feeling that finding what is supposedly a far rarer variant is only a little more exciting than simply finding the standard version. At the same time, it does make the activity more accessible to players who otherwise might not have the patience to look for them.
This increase can even be seen in other recent stories, including one in which aplayer caught 4 shiny Dunsparce and Dudunsparceand made a post showing off their collection. Regardless of the chances, what happened to Setagawa1078 was incredibly lucky, and if that streak keeps up on future shiny hunts, they should have no issue filling up their roster with them.
