The Pokemon Company has been teasingPokemon GOtransfers withSwordandShieldfor quite some time, thought the feature is currently somewhat limited. To transfer Pokemon fromPokemon GOtoPokemon SwordandShieldplayers need to have a copy of eitherLet’s Go PikachuorEeveefor Switch and can only transfer Kanto Pokemon. Transfer betweenPokemon GOandPokemon Homeis planned to arrive by the end of this year, but recent datamines are souring players reception to this as time goes on. Recently, a user on TheSilphRoad subreddit performed a massive datamine onPokemon GO’s latest update.
Reddit user martycochrane made an incredibly in-depth post breaking down what the 0.191.0 update brings toPokemon GO. Arguably the biggest piece of news is the long-awaited transfer integration with Pokemon Home. There’s a ton of information about how the process works but one bit of information sticks out like a sore thumb: “As part of the Energy Costs setting, it appears that your class (legendary, mythical, etc.) and if it’s shiny or not will affect how much it costs.” The Pokemon Company already revealed thatPokemon GOtransfers toPokemon Homewould cost PokeCoin currency, but now it seems it may add an additional cost to certain valuable Pokemon.
For those who aren’t familiar withPokemon GO, PokeCoins are the games premium currency. This means that PokeCoins are harder to come by through regular play and can be purchased for real world money. This news is frustrating for players for multiple reasons, as it was already an annoying addition to add an in-game currency forPokemon GOtransfers in the first place. The possibility that there may be an additional transfer cost on top of the previous cost makes the idea of moving valuablePokemon GOPokemon toSwordandShieldeven more of a hassle.
Since Pokemon moving fromGOtoSwordandShieldneed to move throughHomefirst, there’s no getting around the PokeCoin cost should players want Pokemon from their mobile game on console. Now that theCrown Tundra DLC forSwordandShieldbrought every legendary Pokemon back,GOplayers will no doubt want to move over some legendary Pokemon. While this information remains officially unconfirmed at the time of writing, it’s hard to see this potential move as anything other than overly greedy.
Pokemon Homeis now available for the Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
