In the wake of recentPokemon GOevents, players can still progress in-game even if they can’t go outside. For example, the confirmedchange for June 7 km eggsmeans that there will be many more opportunities to get some Alolan and Galarian versions of Pokemon for the first time. Among these different species are several unique Pokemon with interesting types and skillsets, such as Perrserker.
Perrserker was first introduced through Generation 7’sSwordandShieldgames last year. This Steel-type Pokemon evolves fromGalarian Meowthand has access to many moves that can’t be learned by its Persian and Alolan Persian counterparts. With its debut inPokemon GO, the Viking Pokemon retains the ability to learn several powerful Steel, Ghost, Dark, and Fairy moves that make it a decent choice fighting other players.

PvE Moves
Although Perrserker is competing in a meta with plenty of otherstrong Steel-typesavailable, there are several skill sets that make it a viable alternative when needed. For offense, the double combination of Iron Head and Metal Claw takes advantage of Perrserker’s STAB synergy to excel against Fairy, Ice, and Rock types. Alternatively, Shadow Claw and Foul Play give Perrserker an edge up against Ghost-types which deal normal damage to Steel compared to many other types. While assigning Perrserker to gym defense, the best moves will be Metal Claw plus Shadow Claw or Play Rough for STAB and to cover the weaknesses of popular types such as Dragons.
PvP Moves
On the other hand, Perrserker faces even stiffer competition when being brought to thePvP Leagues inPokemon GO. As such, very specific moves are needed to compete against other meta Pokemon. For example, players maybe tempted to run Metal Claw because of STAB, but it will take much longer to charge enough energy for their second move and possibly lose the fight. In this case, Shadow Claw is a better substitute simply for being effective against Ghost and Psychic-types while generating decent energy.
For the charge move, Perrserker can take Foul Play, Play Rough, or Close Combat to be a good generalist while covering its weaknesses, but the third option carries risk due to its DEF debuff if the fight carries on. And even if players can get Perrserker to work in Great Leagues, it will simply lose out to thestrongest Ultra League Pokemonand fail to make Master League because of its stats.
In the end, while Perrserker won’t be rising to the top of any meta lists soon, the Steel-type Pokemon isn’t a bad choice for most tasks and battles. And if the arrival of these new Galarian Pokemon is a sign of things to come, players can expect even stronger Generation 7 Pokemon to make theirPokemon GOdebut throughout summer.
