Shellder got its introduction back inPokemon Red and Bluewith the other150 first-gen Pokemon. While it’s a Pokemon all on its own, it also has the unusual quality of potentially merging with a second Pokemon, Slowpoke. Shellder hasn’t seen many changes in recent years, but Slowpoke’s Shellder-dependent evolutions have gained new forms. Pokemon like Galarian Slowbro, Mega Slowbro, and Slowking all change the way that the Shellder is attached to the Pokemon and how it looks, adding some variety to the Pokemon that it’s otherwise lacking in its own evolutionary line.
Although Slowbro and Slowking’s Shellders are certainly interesting, this particularPokemonfan’s creation focuses on the original form ofShellderwhen it’s still an individual. The purple shell Pokemon has been reproduced by AnnushkaToys in excellent detail, measuring about 12 inches. The Bivalve Pokemon plush is made out of minky microfiber fabric and is stuffed with hollow fibre stuffing to give it a soft and squishy quality. The overall design of the Pokemon has been recreated extremely well, down to the funny tongue rolling out of the Shellder’s face and the bugged-out eyes peeking out of the shell.
This particular fan is no stranger to creating charming plush toys based off video games. A look at their profile shows that they’ve also made numerous plush toys based off of anotherNintendo smash hit, namelyAnimal Crossing. While some game fans enjoy making things like this solely as gifts or to keep, this particular fan does sell their plush creations in an online shop, for any fans who might be interested in making this Shellder toy their own.
Shellder is Unique, but a Common Sight
Shellder hasn’t received a new evolution of its own since its release. Its standard evolution, Cloyster, is probably better known as being a part of Slowbro and Slowking at this point than being its own Pokemon. However, it’s also been extremely prevalent, unlike some otherKanto-region Pokemon. Shellder has been in every mainlinePokemongame with the exception ofPokemon Legends: Arceus. It remains to be seen if it’s also absent inPokemon Legends: Z-A, or if it will follow the typical trend instead. It also remains to be seen if Shellder will ever receive an alternate form or evolution. While it’s an older Pokemon, Game Freak has looked to the Kanto region many times while creating regional forms and other unique takes, so nothing’s out of the question.
