Warning: Spoilers ahead for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.Days after it initially happened, the fallout from the massive Insomniac Games leak is continuing to be felt. Gamers have dissected every piece ofMarvel’s Wolverinefootage they can while also analyzing some wider PlayStation material like game sales, budgets, andexclusivity deals such as the one for Marvel’s X-Men. The curtain has been pulled back on scrapped projects like a multiplayer Spider-Man game, too, and though that game’s cancelation has disappointed many fans, most seem excited by what is in the works from the developer. One game in particular, calledVenom: Lethal Protector, could be a perfect home for the villain Carnage, who was teased inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2did plenty of groundwork for the next major game in the franchise, as not only was a new Spider-Hero set up via Silk, but multiple villains were teased for what will seemingly be the final game in the trilogy. Doctor Octopus is set to make a return, and another main villain in the form of Green Goblin looks like he will be featured as well. Beyond that, Chameleon has been set up as a minor foe and so has Carnage, with the latter even being part of a seemingly scrapped DLC plan forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, considering how dark of a character Carnage can be, saving him for a Venom game instead ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2DLC orMarvel’s Spider-Man 3would be an ideal approach.

Why Carnage Being in Venom: Lethal Protector is So Exciting
A Venom Game Could Give Carnage an M-Rated Playground
WhileMarvel’s Spider-Man 2did a solid job with making Venom brutal despite its T rating, as his killing of Kraven was brutal and certain finishing move animations were gruesome, the lack of blood and gore removed some weight from a lot of the character’s attacks. That should not be the case in a standalone game, nor does it need to. WhileMarvel’s Spider-Manhas to maintain its T rating,a standalone Venom gamewill be free to take the leap to become an M for Mature property, as it is technically going to be a separate IP. Though an M rating for Venom is purely speculation, it would make sense given who the character is and who he will be fighting.
Insomniac Games’Marvel’s Wolverinehas been rumored to have an M-rating, with its leaked gameplay making it seem very likely that this will be the case. If Insomniac is willing to deliver an M-rated game for an even bigger project like Wolverine, surely it would do so for Venom if it feels it better suits the character.

Though an M-rating would help Venom, it is truly essential for Carnage, who is a serial killer known for showing no remorse. He may lead afiery cult inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, but this serial killer background remains, and featuring him prominently in a T-rated game would be extremely difficult because of that. Insomniac would have to awkwardly cut around all his crimes and avoid showing Carnage doing what he does best if he features inMarvel’s Spider-Man 3, which is a problem that the lackluster movieVenom: Let There Be Carnagesuffered from. In an M-rated Venom spin-off, though, Carnage could wreak havoc, with the effects of his crimes put on clear display to make him far more intimidating and memorable.
Carnage Being Used For Venom Will Make Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 Less Busy
Thanks to an image confirming that Carnage will be infecting NYC Burroughs inVenom: Lethal Protector, players know he will be the main villain instead ofa character like Knull. This is great news not only for Carnage, but alsoMarvel’s Spider-Man 3. The red Symbiote creature will get much more time to shine as the main villain of a spin-off game, just like how The Tinkerer had a fair bit of screen time inSpider-Man: Miles Morales. Had he been used inMarvel’s Spider-Man 3instead, he could have overcomplicated the plot since Green Goblin and Doc Ock are already set to be main villains. Alternatively, he could have been kept as a side villain to avoid this potential problem, which would have meant a very small role instead of the bigger part in the plot that he deserves. As such, a Venom game truly is the perfect scenario for the character, as it will hopefully have an M rating that lets Carnage let loose while also giving him a main villain position.
