Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remasteredhas not been the title that some players had hoped for. The primary criticism from fans has been thatthe remaster only focuses on the campaign ofModern Warfare 2and as a result, some players are missing the ability to play classic maps online. Several players have now taken it upon themselves to mod the game to include a multiplayer option.
Despite numerousrumors thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remasteredwould receive a multiplayer updateit never came to fruition and this patch now seems to be increasingly unlikely. After Activision made it clear that they had no intention to implement a multiplayer option, modder and project lead Gunoftruth went about rectifying the situation and it is being built through the mod tools that are available inCall of Duty: Black Ops 3.

The mod is in its early stages but a handful of maps have been created and the majority of weapons are available through the mod. However, this is not a carbon copy of the original multiplayer mode inModern Warfare 2and the modders are undertaking editorial decisions. The modders are giving fans polls so they can address issues as they work and target particularly annoying issues from the original. The noticeable difference from this democratic approach is evident in the inability to take advantage of the One Man Army glitch which allowed players to manipulate explosives and have them replenish.
Despite the admirable work of Gunoftruth, many will wonder why Activision has not addressed the multiplayer elements of the game when there is a clear audience for it. It seems thatActivision omitted a multiplayer mode fromModern Warfare 2to keep a focus on the online components of theModern Warfarereboot. This appears to have largely worked as game modes likeWarzonestill have a huge player base and the game is the focus of many players. With that said, this strategy of focusing the attention of consumers will disappoint fans ofModern Warfare 2and they appear to be responding with unconventional methods.
Many will hope that this mod is not taken down by Activision, particularly as the publisher does not offer a multiplayer alternative for the maps in the game currently. Even thoughModern Warfare 2sold well, mods like this may encourage Activision to rethink its strategy when it comes to remastering old products. Particularly if a user base for the mod begins to grow.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remasteredis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
