Without a doubt, many are still reeling from the explosive reveal that Xbox/Microsoft is in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard with that said to be completed sometime in 2023. Many reasonably hope that Xbox is able to clean up some of Activision Blizzard’s messy workplace culture, while questions about currentActivision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick’s future are being raisedtoo.
Ultimately, there are a ton of questions and no answers—and there won’t be until the ink dries either. For now, fans will just have to wait and see how this acquisition goes down, but it’s not likely to be forgotten either.McDonald’s, for example, seems to be having a little fun with it.

McDonald’s recently posted an innocuous box of French fries, with the caption to reply with a pinching finger emoji to “steal” one. As social media accounts for brands often interact, Xbox commented with the emoji, to which McDonald’s responded with a custom image of an Xbox Series X controller with its logo and the pinching finger emoji. In kind, Xbox responded with acustom red Xbox Series X console and controllerimage, with fries coming out of the console itself. It’s a silly, fun back-and-forth, but then McDonald’s hit Xbox with a “are u trying to acquire me too?”
As of this writing, Xbox hasn’t managed a response and, at this point, it seems unlikely too. It’s quite hilarious, almost on the same level ofWendy’s calling Xbox out onHalo Infinite’s co-op functionality. Overall, while the topic at hand here with McDonald’s is clearly serious, it seems to be mostly in good fun. It’s not like anyone would expect this to be serious, and a good joke is always helpful in any circumstance.
Of course, that’s not to undermine the seriousness of the topic at hand either. This was just a bit of fun, but fans can continue to expect major news, reveals, questions, and interactions withXbox as the Activision Blizzard acquisitioncontinues. No one, at this juncture, knows what will come of it outside company walls, and exact plans for Activision Blizzard may not be set in stone yet.
After all, the latest reports indicate Activision Blizzard approached Xbox about the acquisition. After crudely considering purchasing sites like PC Gamer and Kotaku itself, as well as potentially other avenues, Activision Blizzard leadership decided the best way forward was to sell, and other companies likeEA and Facebook were approached about acquiring Activision Blizzard. The end result, as fans know for now, became Xbox’s acquisition of the company, but that’s just the start of a new, untold chapter.
