Though she may well be the star of the show, Bayonetta is just one of many popular characters to appear in PlatinumGames' hugely successfulBayonettaseries. People like Rodin and the recently introduced Viola certainly have a lot going for them, but it’s probably Jeanne who comes closest to matching the titular Umbra Witch when it comes to likability.

Like Bayonetta, Jeanne is a member of the Umbra Witch clan and has appeared in every installment of the franchise thus far. In fact,Jeanne is a playable character in the first twoBayonettagames, leading many fans to wonder whether she would once again be unlockable inBayonetta 3. The good news is that she is, although players will need to put in a fair bit of work in order to actually unlock her.
How to Unlock Jeanne in Bayonetta 3
Just like in the first twoBayonettagames, players can unlock Jeanne inBayonetta 3by completing the main story. This will take most playersbetween 12 and 15 hours in total, though those who skip cutscenes can expect to shave quite a bit of time off of those numbers. Thankfully,it doesn’t matter which difficulty players choose to complete the game on, so less-skilled players needn’t worry too much about having to push themselves too hard in order to unlock Jeanne inBayonetta 3.
Players will be given the opportunity to play as Jeanne in special spy missions at certain points throughout the main story, but will not be able to choose her from the Character Select screen until after they’ve completed the game.

How to Play as Jeanne in Bayonetta 3
Upon completingChapter 14 ofBayonetta 3, players will receive a message letting them know that Jeanne has been added tothe Character Select screen. Although chapters will remain largely the same when playing as Jeanne, she controls very differently to the game’s other two playable characters, which can help to give Jeanne playthroughs a very unique feel. There are also certain Bewitchments that require chapters to be completed as Jeanne, so completionists will need to spend a fair bit of time with her.
How to Change Jeanne’s Outfit in Bayonetta 3
Unlikewith Bayonetta and Viola, players will not be able to change Jeanne’s costume; at least not at the time of writing, anyway. This will no doubt come as a huge disappointment to some players, particularly with the Umbra Witch having sported several different looks throughout the series already. Of course, that’s not to say that new outfits for Jeanne won’t be added to the game at some point in the future, but, for now, at least, players will have to settle for the pink and red number that she can be seen wearing throughout the course of the main story.
Bayonetta 3was released on July 07, 2025, and is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
