With the release of Topaz & Numby (Mentioned as Topaz from now on) inHonkai: Star Rail, the roster continues to expand, introducing another Hunt path character. She is the second limited Hunt path character after Seele, who was the first-ever limited character in the game. Topaz is also the first limited character in the Fire element category, offering new opportunities for players to experiment with synergies and team compositions, especially for those interested ina follow-up heavy playstyle. This addition provides more diversity to the character roster, enhancing the game’s overall experience for those looking to tackle challenging new content.
Topaz, as a character from the Hunt Path, can serve as both the primary DPS character and even as a sub-DPS unit, depending on how she is paired with other characters. Her unique gameplay mechanic, which revolves around follow-up attacks, benefits not only Topaz but also all allies by enhancing the follow-up attack damage. This makes her a versatile character who can provide support in certain team compositions inHonkai: Star Rail. Nevertheless she and other allies undoubtedly requires additional support units as she is not entirely a replacement of a support unit even for follow-up attack-focused teams, to maximize her effectiveness. With that being said, Asta is the primary support character to enhance Topaz’s capabilities, however, the following team compositions have been designed with diversity in mind, ensuring that Asta is not mandatory for every setup.
5Topaz + Jing Yuan + Tingyun + Lynx
Jing Yuan is another character with a follow-up heavy playstyle who can benefit from Topaz’s kit, as they share similarities with their own speed values and action orders. While they may not have perfect synergy as two DPS-oriented characters, their effectiveness can be further improved by addingother characters like Tingyun, who can be used to buff either Topaz or Jing Yuan, and Lynx as the party’s healer.
Both Numby and Lightning Lord are susceptible to negative status effects applied by enemies, so having access to AoE debuff removal with Lynx can be very useful. This helps ensure that both characters are not interrupted often and can maintain their DPS output.
4Topaz + Himeko + Asta + Luocha
Although there isn’t aFire Abundance characteravailable at the moment, players can create an effective mono-Fire team composition by combining Himeko and Asta with Topaz. Pairing this setup with a healer or another defensive support character, such as Luocha will still work quite well. Notably, Luocha’s first constellation provides benefits to the entire team since the other characters also scale with ATK, boosting their damage output, for players who have access to it.
In this team composition, Asta serves as a Fire DMG buffer and increases the team’s ATK and Speed, enabling the characters to attack more frequently.Himeko’s follow-up abilities align well with Topaz’s buffs. However, it’s essential to keep in mind that Himeko’s follow-up attacks may not trigger as frequently depending on the enemy composition. This setup may be less effective against enemies that aren’t weak to Fire or when there aren’t enough enemies to build Himeko’s charge points.
3Topaz + Kafka + Asta + Bailu
Kafka, like Topaz, is another versatile character who can function as both a main DPS and sub-DPS depending on her team compositions. When compared to Himeko, Kafka can consistently trigger her follow-up attacks, especially if both Topaz and Kafka attack the same enemy. This means that each turn, players can expect follow-up attacks from both Topaz and Kafka. To optimize this setup, players should consider using Asta once again, as Asta’s Speed buff enables follow-up attacks to trigger multiple times per turn, especially whencharacters are also built with Speedstats.
For the final slot in this team composition, there is flexibility, and players can choose any defensive support option they have access to. However, if players want to create a dual-element team composition, Bailu can be a good choice, even though she may not necessarily synergize with the utility provided by the rest of the team.
2Topaz + Qingque + Silver Wolf + Fu Xuan
An intriguing team composition that explores new synergies involves using Topaz with Qingque as the hyper carry, focusing on Quantum element primarily. To make this composition effective however,players need to unlock Qingque’s sixth Eidolon, which allows her to launch follow-up attacks and benefit from Topaz’s buff.
Fu Xuan and Silver Wolf are the other two characters in this composition. While neither Fu Xuan nor Silver Wolf benefit from follow-up attacks directly, they both support Topaz and Qingque effectively. Fu Xuan, in particular, plays a crucial role by ensuring the team maintains high HP and providing a Crit Rate buff. On the other hand, Silver Wolf can apply Quantum or Fire weakness to enemies and reduce their DEF, enabling the team to deal more damage. If enemies already have Fire and/or Quantum weakness, players have the flexibility to replace Silver Wolf with Pela or Bronya, depending on the team’s needs.
1Topaz + Clara + March 7th + Natasha
The synergy between Clara and March7th as a follow-up attack duo is highly effective. These two characters can trigger each other’s follow-up attacks consistently, provided March 7th uses her skill on Clara, and Clara gets hit frequently. With this duo at the core of the team, the remaining slots can be filled with characters that benefit significantly from Topaz’s follow-up attack buff, allowing the team to deal substantial damage.
Furthermore, this team composition stands out as one of the most F2P-friendly options for Topaz, as it includes no limited-banner characters aside from herself. March 7th and Natasha are given to players as part of their Trailblazer journey, making this a readily accessible and powerful team composition for many players.
