Weapons are more than tools in the game as they are often part of a particular playstyle. Due to the vast number of weapons, every fan can play the game how they want to. That said, some of the weapons inDark Souls 3are easier to use than others.
Mastering a weapon requires understanding how it works and how a person can utilize it in every situation. As a result, the difference in each weapon adds another layer of depth to the gameplay.
1Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords
Greatswords With The Power Of Fire
Ringed Knight Paired Greatswordsis a weapon with a high requirement for Strength. It is the only Ultra Greatsword in the game that is already dual-handed and the player does not need to obtain another Greatsword to put in the offhand. The normal andthe heavy attack act the same as any other Greatswordbut what differentiates the weapon is theEmberSkill. The skill makes the character swirl the weapon around, causing a streak of fire to appear and transition into an airborne vertical strike.
The ability of this Greatsword to deal fire damage as well as physical damage from normal attacks is a unique trait that can come in handy in many situations. The hard part comes due to the fact that this weapon also requires quite a lot of stamina to use as well as time to initiate the Skill move and heavy attacks.
2Demon’s Scar

Demon’s Scaris a weapon inDark Souls 3that can be used as a Curved Swordand also to castPyromancies. The weapon does not deal any Physical damage. This weapon has great utility because it allows the player to fight at close range or hurl fireballs from afar. It also has a unique skill that enables the character to spin around, transitioning into an aerial spinning attack that leaves behind a small pool of lava.
Despite the great utility this weapon provides, the weapon can be hard to use efficiently.This is because deciding whether Pyromancies or flame light attacks are better in any scenario can be difficult,especially if fighting against an invader.
3Black Blade
Perfecting The Parry
Black Bladeis a katana that has the highest base damage out of all the katanas. All katanas are fast weapons that deal good damage throughout the game. Despite having decent damage from light and heavy attacks the main challenging feature of the katanas lies in its Skill move. The Skill allows the player to sheathe the sword and go into a holding stance.In this stance, the player can follow up with a lunging slash attack or a deflecting parry.
Landing successful parries can be quite difficultbut those can be the difference maker in many situations. Parrying an invader can almost guarantee victory on the spot. The more the player practices attack movement and parrying, the faster they will master using the Black Blade.
4Friede’s Great Scythe

Friede’s Great Scytheis a weapon that has a lot of attacks in the moveset. In its base form, it acts as a normal scythe with a normal and heavy attack. However, its Skill, which is theElfriede’s Stance,allows the player to conjure another scythe in their left hand. This Skill changes the normal and heavy attacks into a leap attack and creates running frost crystals on the ground.The weapon can causeFrostbuild-upwhich can lead to more damage to the enemy.
The weapon is much better in PvP than PvE except when it comes to the Skill.The Leap swing attack is a great tool against enemies in the normal world. However, it is also very easy to parryallowing invaders to make quick work of the scythe user. Experimenting with this can be a step towards understanding the weapon better.
5Crow Quills
The Perfect Duo Of Rapier And Claws
TheCrow Quillsis a dexterity weapon that players can acquire in one of the higher-level areas in the Painted World of Ariandel. Players who are fond of using Rapiers and Claws will be excited to use this weapon. Crow Quills is a hybrid weapon that can be used as a Rapier in its base form. When switched to both hands the player can use it as a Claw variant, dealing a good amount of damage. The weapon also has a ranged Skill move known as Quill Dart that allows the player to throw the blades in their hand.
Themain issue with mastering the weaponcomes when trying to understand the moveset of both the variants and when to use a particular form.Its ranged attack also has a slow startup as the character jumps up and throws the quills. This can be interrupted during boss fights so using it at the right time is the key to victory.
6Smough’s Great Hammer
Heavy To Carry But Packs A Massive Punch
Smough’s Great Hammeris one of the few weapons in the game that requires an absurd amount of Strength to wield. When equipped using both hands the amount of damage dealt by the heavy attacks can be tremendous (if the weapon is upgraded of course). However, as the weapon can deal high damage there are also several drawbacks when using it. The dual-handed heavy attack takes up time to use so the player will need high poise, otherwise they can get interrupted quite easily.
The hammer also uses a lot of stamina on every attack, making the player put more points into Enduranceto not run out of stamina to dodge after just a single heavy attack.
