Summary

The creators of the eagerly awaitedFallout 4total conversion modFallout: Londonhave recently revealed that the game will be available for download on GOG after its release. The decision to release the massiveFallout 4mod on a store is due to the project’s huge file size, which is around 30 to 40 GB.

Fallout: Londonwas originally revealed back in 2021, and it’s currently being developed by a non-profit modding group called Team FOLON. The game will be set in a post-apocalyptic version of London, and it will likely be the biggestFalloutmod ever released.

Now,Fallout: London’s project lead Dean Carter told The Gamerthat the mod will get an official GOG release. According to the gaming website, the team decided on GOG because it was impossible to release the project on Nexus Mods due to its massive file size. Sized at around 30 to 40 GB,Fallout: Londonis much bigger than total conversion mods likeFallout: The FrontierorFallout: New California. This decision will not come without some difficulties for GOG’s marketing department, though. A GOG spokesperson revealed to The Gamer that despiteFallout: Londonbeing “a release unlike any other,” it’s hard to put it in the store and clearly indicate to customers that this is not a new game or an official DLC due to how expansive it looks.

Fallout 4’s Next-Gen Update Is the Biggest Culprit of Fallout: London’s Delay

According to the report, GOG was already working to bringFallout: Londonto the platform even before the project’s recent delay. Originally,Fallout: Londonwas expected to be out on April 23, releasing soon after the Amazon Prime TV show’s debut. However, Bethesda’s recentFallout 4next-gen update broke several mods, andFallout: Londonhad to be delayeduntil its devs make sure it’s compatible with the current version of the game.

A few weeks ago, thecreators ofFallout: Londoncommented on theFallout 4update. At the time, Carter voiced the studio’s feelings of being “blindsided” by Bethesda’s announcement and expressed frustration over the situation.

Unfortunately, while PC owners will eventually get to playFallout: Londonon GOG, the same cannot be said for console gamers.Fallout: Londonwill not be released for consolesdue to its huge file size. It’s not entirely impossible thatFallout: Londoncould eventually be available for Xbox at least, considering that Microsoft owns Bethesda, but fans should not hold their breath, as all indications lead to believing that this will be a PC-only release.
