After player counts began to dwindle in 2021, the wackyWipeout-inspired battle royaleFall Guysgot a new lease on life as a free-to-play title. Now available on Xbox consoles as well as the Nintendo Switch, there’s arguably never been a better time to get in on the action. The caveat of this change seems to have been an increased reliance on cosmetic microtransactions, the recently-announced WWE tie-in skins being the latest high-profile optional purchases to appear in theFall Guysin-game storefront.A cross-promotion with the WWE’s annual Summerslam event, cutesy skins depicting professional wrestling stars Asuka, Xavier Woods, and The Undertaker will be available forFall Guysplayers to purchase from July 28 to August 1. Special nameplates and emotes will also be available to pick up for a limited time. It’s an interesting move from a marketing perspective;Fall Guysis no stranger to these sorts of promotions, though it’s almost always been done withother video game franchises such asBugsnaxandAstro’s Playroom.RELATED:Fall Guys Addressing Accidental In-Game Purchases, Refunding For All Requests MadeThe Summerslam tie-in will be coming hot on the heels ofthe newFall GuysClan of Yeetus eventwhich will see classicminigames remixed with a bunch of added obstacles. While this may confuse newcomers, it makes for an excellent draw for returning players who haven’t picked up the game in quite some time. There’s also a new battle pass accompanying what the developer has dubbed the first season of the game’s new “Free For All” phase, so even players who aren’t particularly interested in getting their hands on WWE cosmetics will have a reason to log in.

These aren’t the only updates that haveFall Guysfans interested. According toFall GuysYouTuber and dataminer Pancake -Fall Guys Leaks,a new stage based onSonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone—which has creatively been retitled Bean Hill Zone—is in the works. It appears to have been designed for the oft-bemoaned team games such as Hoopsie Daisy and Team Tail Tag, both of which seem like thematically appropriate modes for aSonic-themed level.

It’s hard to know how long theFall Guystrend will continue, but, withsurging player counts thanks to the transition to free-to-playand more content apparently coming down the pipeline, the game’s lifecycle appears to have been considerably extended. Plus, with a plethora of pop culture tie-ins,Fall Guysmay have a chance to equal the ubiquity of publisher Epic Games’ other mega-hitFortnite.

Fall Guysis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
