Dragon Ball Z: Kakarothas announced a second season pass that will include aBardock SagaDLC, set to release in 2023. Since its launch in 2020, CyberConnect2 and Bandai Namco have continued to supportDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the single-player RPG reimagining the events of theDragon Ball Zportion of Akira Toriyama’s iconic mangaDragon Ball. Since launch, it has received DLC based on content followingDragon Ball Z’s story such asBattle of GodsandResurrection F, and now it has been announced that it will receive aBardock: The Father of GokuDLC in 2023 as part of a second season pass.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotfirst released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2020, and is an action-RPG. The game lifts gameplay mechanics from past CyberConnect2 games likeAsura’s Wrathand theNaruto Ultimate Ninja Stormseries, and features awide variety ofDragon Ballcharactersincluding Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo as it recreates the entireDragon Ball Zstory, including some select filler episodes from the anime in the form of side-missions. The game was supported with healthy post-launch content in 2020, such as theBattle of Godsinspired DLCA New Power Awakens Part 1, and theResurrection FinspiredA New Power Awakens Part 2. In 2021, it received an original story inspired by the animeThe History of TrunkstitledTrunks: The Warrior of Hope.

Now, thanks to the game’s continued success, Bandai Namco has announced at Tokyo Game Show thatDragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill be receiving an entire new season pass’s worth of DLC in 2023,beginning with the launch ofBardock: Alone Against Fate. This will be followed by two more expansions, likely retelling other parts of theDragon Ballstory, alongside a next-gen version ofDragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which is also set to launch in 2023. It has not been confirmed whether this will include free upgrades for PS4 and Xbox One owners or not.
This will retell the events ofBardock: The Father of Goku, a TV special released in 1990 that followsGoku’s father and his battle with Frieza to defend the Saiyans, which explains how Goku ended up on Earth at the beginning ofDragon Ball. This story was later adapted into the plot of 2019’sDragon Ball Super: Broly, which made it a part of officialDragon Ballcanon. Screenshots reveal that players will control Bardock in new areas, including Planet Vegeta.
It’s not yet known what the rest of the season pass will adapt, however it’s likely that it will include reimaginings of more movies likeDragon Ball Super: Brolyandpossibly the recently releasedDragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotis available now for Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
