Summary
In the latest update toDestiny 2, Bungie reintroduced a previously-removed movement method inside the European Aerial Zone, improving player mobility and allowing players to push for greater rewards. The developers at Bungie are alwaystweaking and testing new grounds withDestiny 2’s annual eventsto freshen the experience with each passing year. However, not all changes are well-received by players and are remedied or reworked in later patches.
The Solstice event, previously known as Solstice of Heroes, is one of theoldest annual events inDestiny 2and a novel one for the sequel. Players can embark on special missions in the European Aerial Zone during The Solstice to defeat enemies and reap unique rewards. Each successful EAZ run grants players powerful high-stat armors, while special currencies gained from the EAZ are used to upgrade Solstice-exclusive ornate armors with cosmetic glows that match player-equipped subclasses. Each year’s event is accompanied by brand-new cosmetics for Armor sets that serve as a chase item for the fashionably attuned Guardians. And finally, like most activities inDestiny 2, players can obtain event-exclusive bounties from Eva Levante for bright dust and XP gains.

While The Solstice has changed considerably since its earliest days, it still serves as one of the better places for players to obtain powerful gearwithout engaging withDestiny 2’s daunting endgame. To procure the maximum rewards, however, players are required to defeat ten squads of enemies while tackling intermittent spawns of Taken and a time limit, which is difficult thanks to EAZ’s precarious layout. Many players expressed frustration regarding the overly complex gameplay loop for a seasonal event shortly after Solstice’s launch, prompting Bungie to reintroduce Sparrows in the EAZ in the latest 7.1.5.2 patch. The developers hope that these vehicles, combined with other static launch pads, will significantly improve the success rate for teams going for maximum rewards.
The 7.1.5.2 patch also introduced several bug fixes for the game, including a progression-blocking bug for the Solstice-exclusive A Guardian in Shining Armor quest. The patch also remedied an issue with several ofDestiny 2’s Armor mods incorrectly providing more ability energy on use, with the mods now working as intended post-patch. Most importantly, patch 7.1.5.2 fixed the bug involving the Child of the Old Gods Void Warlock aspect.
Although the reintroduction of Sparrows in EAZ is a welcome change for many, others in the community have expressed their disappointment over the delayed patch and chalked it up toanother mistake by Bungie involvingDestiny 2. Regardless, The Solstice remains one of the best seasonal farming spots that players should take advantage of to its fullest before it leaves in less than one week.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
