Destiny 2recently launched Season 14: Season of the Splicer. The season brought a lot of new content toDestiny 2, with one of the biggest highlights being a new transmog system that the community has been requesting for a long time.

Transmog is a game mechanic that lets players change the look of equipment to match equipment they previously earned in the game. It allows players to wear equipment with really good stats, while also allowing them to give it an appearance that they like as well. When the feature was revealed, however, some fans expressed theirfrustration at the complexity ofDestiny 2’s transmogsystem.

One of the main complaints washow long it would takeDestiny 2players to transmogeach item. Now that Season 14 is out for players to experience, that complaint has been raised yet again. A post to the game’s subreddit by Reddit user I3igB calculates how much time players would have to spend in-game to reach the seasonal cap on materials needed for transmog. In order to transmog players have to accumulate a material called Synthstrand by killing enemies which can then be turned in for bounties that grant Synthcord which is used to transmog a single piece of armor. However, after Season 14 players will be limited to 10 Synthcord a season for each class. I3igB’s post finds that reaching that cap would take a player nearly 7 days of playtime.

The math comes from players finding that Synthstrand drops are relegated with a timer rather than simply how many enemies a player kills. This means that players are only able to get one to drop every two minutes, meaning it takes five hours to get just one bounty for a Synthcore. Players then have to complete the bounty which I3igB figures takes about an hour, making the best-case scenario for completion time about 5 hours and 20 minutes since players will receive more Synthstrand while completing the bounty. The math leads to players having to spend 6 days and 16 hours to reach the cap for the season across all three player classes. The frustration with the system comes following a rocky launch for Season 14 as well as the seasonintroducing some new bugs toDestiny 2.

Developer Bungie has yet to release an official comment on theDestiny 2community’s dissatisfaction with the Transmog system.Destiny 2is frequently being tweaked and adjusted, though, so hopefully it will have some news soon on whether or not the system will be receiving changes to make it more doable for the majority of players.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
