Destiny 2, as an online multiplayer game, puts a lot of emphasis on player choice and customization. Players are given the ability to choose their class, subclass, weapons, and armor, but character customization options are one area where the game falls short. Players are stuck with the look they gave their first Guardian, and that look doesn’t change outside of what players choose to wear as armor. In fact, there is currently no way to go back and change their appearance but by deleting a character and making a new one. This can be frustrating to players and limitsDestiny 2’s fashion endgame for those who enjoy expressing themselves virtually.
One of the waysDestiny 2could continue to ever-improve the user experience, especially for newer or returning players, is it could stand to provide them with more character customization options. This could include expanded options for humans, Exo, and the Awoken. For example, players could have far more options and sliders for a character’s hairstyle, facial features, and body type. This would allow players to create a character that better represents themselves, potentially providing more meaningfulcustomization options toDestiny 2’splayer base.

Why Destiny 2 Players Should Be Able To Change Their Character’s Appearance
Another aspect that needs to be addressed is the lack of diversity in the current customization options. The game currently offers a limited selection of hairstyles and colors, which does not cater to all players' preferences and sticks out like sore thumbs when compared to the plethora of armor pieces that players can use withDestiny 2’s transmog system. It would be ideal forDestiny 2to include more hair, skin, and eye color options, as well as the ability to add tattoos, piercings, and other body modifications. This would allow players to create a character that is truly unique and stands out from the crowd.
Additionally, players should also have the ability to change their character’s appearance at will. This would allow players to experiment with different looks and styles without deleting their current character and starting over. This feature would also benefit players who want to change their character’s appearance to match their current build, for example, which makes perfect sense with a renewed focus on buildcrafting. Considering the powers of theLight and Darkness inDestiny 2, it doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility for Guardians to alter their appearance at the player’s whim, at least from a story or lore perspective.
Destiny 2 Could Make Great Use of Changes to Character Customization and Creation
Another change that could be a positive one for players and theirGuardians' fashion inDestiny 2would be the ability to keep their helmets off when in-game outside of social zones. Other MMOs have a system like this where their character can constantly keep their helmets off, allowing players to always see their character’s heads and faces. IfDestiny 2did something similar, then players would still be able to see their Guardian’s custom faces and hair whenever they emote, use a sword, or use a class ability. Additionally, Bungie could go further and let the players' characters speak more during gameplay and even let players select a preferred voice. Players' Guardians could call out enemy positions, on top of being low on health or reloading, for example.
Additionally, extra voice options and Bungie’s support for a more talkative player-Guardian could meaningfully expand on how players connect with their characters, whereas Guardians are currently silent for the most part. A good portion of what makesDestiny 2enjoyable is player representation, and while players can do this well enough through their armor, shaders, and weapons, overhauled character customization options and systems could elevate this concept even further. Hopefully, this is something Bungie will include in a futureDestiny 2update.
