Summary
In an effort to crack down on rampant cheating in its PVP dungeon crawler,Dark and Darker, developer Ironmace is hoping to enlist the game’s community to identify players deliberately ruining the fun for others. Despite receiving improvements to its anti-hack system as part of the many changes included in anew update forDark and Darkerreleased earlier this month, the first-person RPG is still plagued by cheaters.
With its gritty aesthetic and PVP gameplay,Dark and Darkerimmediately caught gamers’ attention when Ironmace released a demo earlier this year. AlthoughDark and Darker’s unique blend of extraction-based gameplay with aDungeons & Dragons-style setting proved popular, Ironmace soon found itself embroiled in a legal battle. South Korean gaming giant Nexon, which had previously employed several members of the Ironmace team, alleged thatDarker and Darkerwas using assets from its in-development game,P3. This legal controversy led toDark and Darkerbeing pulled from Steamearlier this year, though Ironmace hopes to bring it back to Valve’s digital storefront in the future.

WhileDark and Darkeris now available in early access, players willing to jump through the hoops required to get their hands on the game have found themselves being overwhelmed with online cheaters. Now, in its latest attempt to combat the flood of cheaters ruining the online game for others, Ironmace is calling on the community for help. As first reported by PCGamesN, Ironmace has put out a call on theDark and DarkerDiscord for players to submit footage of suspected cheaters and their usernames. To make it as easy as possible for the developer to deal with reports of cheating Ironmace has set up a dedicated Discord account where players can submit videos of suspected hackers.
Gamers with videos of someone cheating inDark and Darkerare instructed to message the Ironshield Support account on the game’s Discord server and include the hacker’s in-game name in the message. Players should message that account rather than contacting other Ironmace staff for the next 30 days and are instructed to only message Ironshield Support if they have a video of a suspected hacker to submit. It’s too early to know if this effort to combatDark and Darkerhackers will succeed, but it appears that Ironmace is doing its best to combat the problem.
Even though the game has come a long way sinceIronmace asked fans to torrentDark and Darkerafter it was pulled from Steam, it’s clear the fantasy RPG game still faces some hurdles. But if this attempt to crack down on cheating succeeds, it should help make the path to a final release at least a little bit smoother.
Dark and Darkeris available now in early access on PC.
