The Switch remaster ofDevil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakeningis shaping up to be the definitive version of Dante’s origin story, and Capcom announced today that the updated game would give the demon-hunting hero a much-requested new ability. Players will be able to switch between all of their unlocked weapons inDMC3’s new Freestyle mode, according to producer Matt Walker, who took to Twitter to reveal the news in a video on Thursday.

Earlier versions ofDevil May Cry 3only allowed Dante to hold a maximum of four weapons at a time, two ranged and two melee, during combat sequences. Players had to stop at Divinity Statues or wait until a break between missions to change which weapons they brought into fights.

Walker went into detail about howDMC3’s new system works in the Twitter video. The regular weapon switching system, using the Switch controller’s ZL button for ranged weapons and the ZR button for melee weapons, remains present if players tap either button. Holding either of the triggers down brings up a corresponding radial menu that lets players pick specific armaments with the analog stick. In theory, it’s an elegant way to bridge the gap between the almost 15-year-old game and more recent entries, like last year’sDevil May Cry 5.

The announcement follows last month’s reveal from the team thatdynamic style switching is inDevil May Cry 3on Switch, another feature brought into the game to streamline the experience and help fans pull off the series' distinctive combos with their own unique flair.

Devil May Cry 3originally released on the PS2 in 2005, and takes place before Dante’s other demon-hunting adventures. One of the series' most popular entries, the game has reappeared on each console generation since, with the most recent versions prior to the Switch port releasing in 2018 for PC, the PS4, and Xbox One. Capcom hasn’t announced if the enhancements in the Switch version will be patched into the other modern versions of the game, or if theDevil May Crytriple pack for Switchwill get an international release.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakeningis out on February 20 on the Nintendo Switch.
