Despite the entire world is still being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the gaming industry has largely been able to host events online to great success. Earlier this year, Bethesdaannounced that QuakeCon 2020 was canceledduring its 25th anniversary.
Bethesdahas been relatively silent on the announcement front recently, so the cancellation ofQuakeConwas a blow to many fans. Thankfully, Bethesda announced last month that a new event called QuakeCon at Home would be live-streamed for viewers to watch, and now has a set date.

While Bethesda has showcased some high-profile titles during other live gaming events, likeDeathloopandGhostwire: Tokyo,the publisher itself hasn’t hosted a digital event for their own games this year. Still, the publisher and its teams have been hard at work keeping their games up to date while the pandemic continues. For example,Fallout 76’s Season One releasestoday which is a pretty major change for the game’s online structure.
Still, Bethesda now has plenty of new content and games for fans to look forward to throughout 2020 and beyond. Games likeDeathloopandGhostwire: Tokyo,as mentioned above, are still on the horizon, as well as new projects like theFalloutTV show produced by the Westworld creatorsLisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan. Now, Bethesda has confirmed new details for QuakeCon at Home, which will begin on August 7 at 11 AM CST.
The event will take place from August 7 through August 9 and will host a variety of events like charity fundraisers, an esports tournament, and various “surprises.” Naturally, it’s always plausible for new game announcements to come out ofQuakeCon, but the new online format will no doubt bring about a myriad of changes to the event.
It’s important to note thecritically acclaimedDoom Eternalwas shown off at previous QuakeCon events, so a showcase of another upcoming game may very well happen. However, since the event won’t be held on a live stage this year, a live gameplay demo might not be showcased in the same way as previous years.
Regardless, Bethesda and Id Software will no doubt have some announcements that fans will want to keep an eye out for. Bethesda’s official websites details the event fully and even showcases special merch that will most likely only be available for this year’s special version of Quakecon.
Fans can look forward toQuakeCon at Homestarting early August.
