Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas been out for less than six months now and the game still continues to shake down the video game industry. Several days ago, Nintendo reported thatAnimal Crossing: New Horizonswas able to sell over 22 million copies several months after it’s launch. Although the game has been a resounding success worldwide, it was also revealed that a third of the game’s total sales came from its home country of Japan, making it one of the best selling games ever in the country.

Of course, much ofAnimal Crossing: New Horizons’appeal comes from its wholesome gameplay experience and Nintendo’s constant support post-launch. However, one can’t ignore the fact that the game’s adorable cast of non-playable characters also played a key role in its success. Whilethe cat villagers are still the most popular with the game’s fanbase, the wolf characters are now starting to gain the affection of some fans. Currently, there are 11 wolf villagers inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, and here is how each of them fares in terms of popularity.

Tier A

Villagers: Audie, Whitney

On the top of the list are Audie and Whitney, who are currently the most popular wolf villagers inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. The most interesting thing about Audie is that it is widely believed that her character is based onthe 88-year old grandma named Audrey, who went viral last year after it was revealed that she spent 4,000 hours intoAnimal Crossing: New Leaf.Of course, this may have been the reason why the character of Audie is popular amongAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans.

Joining Audie on the top tier of wolf villagers is Whitney, who is a snooty villager that was featured in severalAnimal Crossinggames. It is currently unclear why Whitney rose to popularity, but it is no secret that a good number ofAnimal Crossingfans prefer snooty villagers due tothe drama that they cause in the game.To the uninitiated, villagers under the snooty personality type would gossip about other villagers, often judging them by their looks and the way they dress.

Tier B

Villagers: Fang, Skye, Wolfgang

Wolves in this tier are still very popular amongAnimal Crossingfans such as Fang who is a veteran villager in the series. Fang has appeared on allAnimal Crossinggames except Wild World and featuresa cranky personality type. To those unfamiliar, cranky villagers are somewhat the male counterpart of snooty villagers given that they are also hard to impress, and are not very friendly, especially at the beginning. On the other hand, Wolfgang is also a cranky villager, while Skye has a normal personality.

Tier C

Villagers: Kyle, Dobie, Freya

Wolf villagers in this tier are the not so popular ones inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. For example, Kyle was just introduced inAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, making him somewhat of a newcomer in the franchise. His personality type falls under the smug category, which means that he will be distant Kyle is polite, kind, gentleman-like, and will easily get along with most villagers. On the other hand, Freya is snooty, while Dobie is cranky. Interestingly enough, Dobie was categorized as lazy in other games, making him one of the few villagers who had a personality change.

Tier D

Villagers: Chief, Lobo, Vivian

Last on the list is either the least popular or least liked wolf villagers inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons.Leading this tier is veteranAnimal Crossingvillager Chief, who is also a cranky villager. Chief has appeared in allAnimal Crossinggames, making him one of the oldest characters among all the wolf villagers. Chief is joined by Lobo who is also a veteran villager and Vivian who only appeared in a handful ofAnimal Crossinggames.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
