For weeks, fans ofAmong Ushave been teased with the biggest addition to the game since it skyrocketed into popularity this summer: a brand new map. Developer InnerSloth has been making it clear that themap would be announced during The Game Awards, and today it delivered, revealing thatAmong Us' next map will be called The Airship.
It’s been an incredibly massive year for the 2018 game of deception and cartoon murder. In the span of a few months,Among Ushas gone from a relative unknown in the gaming community to one of 2020’s biggest hits, up there with the likes ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake,The Last of Us 2, andAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Today at The Game Awards, it made a strong impression at its its first official showing, taking home not just theaward for Best Mobile Game but Best Multiplayer too.

With the momentum it’s gained this year, no doubt fans will be excited to start weeding out impostors and hunting down crewmates on The Airship. Set to be released in early 2021, the map, unsurprisingly, will be set inside a large aircraft. Specifically, the ship is based on the Toppat Clan Airship from theHenry Stickmanseries, and thus will feature several references to InnerSloth’s earlier work.
Players will find plenty of familiar features on the new map, including vents for impostors to sneak around in, recurring tasks like wires and data downloads, and theemergency meeting button. Those will be joined by a number of new map elements like ladders, moving platforms, and the ability to start off in different rooms after a meeting. There will also be new tasks as well, with the reveal trailer quickly showing off tasks that involve polishing up a dirty gemstone and pulling an overstuffed trash bag out of a trash can.
Of course, even with these changes, the core ofAmong Us' gameplay remains intact, so players shouldn’t have to worry about learning how to play the game all over again. That said, the new map elements and gameplay features look set to freshen things up and make for a fun challenge as players learn the ins and outs of The Airship, much as they have been on The Skeld, Mira HQ, and Polus for months now.
For the time being, there’s no exact release date for The Airship’s arrival beyond “early 2021.” In the meantime, though, InnerSloth will have more to offer players, as it has confirmed thatthere are a few other surprises in store forAmong Usthis month. This includes a new mask based on The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, which players can download now.
