A new piece ofElden Ringfan art has made its way online that lends a bit of charm to arguably the creepiest boss in the game, Mohg, Lord of Blood. Given that From Software’s open-world RPG is one of the most highly-acclaimed games of recent years, it’s no surprise thatElden Ringfan art has been abundant, whether it fans celebrating their favorite characters or, in this case, sharing their take on one of the more unnerving bosses.

The world ofElden Ring, much like From Software’s previous titles, has more than its fair share of grim and disturbing elements, yet when it comes to the unsettling enemies of the Lands Between, few compare to Mohg. This is evident not just in his dark backstory andhis rather controversial relationship with Miquella, but in the boss fight against him and the fierce blood-based attacks he unleashes on players as well. Enhancing the creepiness factor is the Lord of Blood’s beastly appearance, with a mouth full of long fangs, demonic-looking wings, and a twisted tangle of horns weaving around his head, including one horn that’s growing into his left eye socket.

Which makes the pixel-based GIF created by Mr3sk on Reddit all the more impressive for the way it makes Mohg almost kind of cute. The animated artwork imagines the fight with Mohg as an old-school adventure game boss battle, depictingElden Ring’s Lord of Blood standing imposingly before a lone Tarnished with arms outstretched, just like at the start of the fight with him in-game. Despite that, the brighter colors and retro aesthetic manage to tone down the creepier aspects of Mohg’s design.

Of the many responses to Mr3sk’s post, there were plenty of references made to Mohg and his boss encounter. Others were also pleased to see that the Tarnished in the GIF appears to be based onfamedElden Ringplayer Let Me Solo Her. A popular reply also joked that Mr3sk’s Tarnished needs to work on increasing their vigor, as evidenced by theLegend of Zelda-esque health gauge boasting only three hearts.

As to be expected from a game as notoriously difficult asElden Ring, Mohg can be a brutal foe to face in a casual playthrough with his assortment of blood attacks. However, a little preparation can turn this hard fight into one of the easiest in the game, as one player showed when theymanaged to one-shot Mohg at level 1.

Mr3sk’s Mohg GIF is yet another example of a talentedElden Ringfan paying homage to From Software’s open-world hit. Its many memorable characters, enemies, weapons, and locations have provided creative fans with plenty to inspire them, and no doubt theupcomingShadow of the Erdtreeexpansion, once that finally comes out, will offer even more.

Elden Ringis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
