Goats might not seem all that special, but players will certainly have a need for them when they least expect it inRed Dead Redemption 2. Not only is hunting them essential for the Zoologist’s achievement to those seekingRed Dead Redemption 2100% completion, but hunting them can provide unique rewards that can be crafted intosomething far greater.
Luckily for players who can’t seem to find goats anywhere in RDR 2, there are plenty of spots to look in, as well as one guaranteed area that will be brimming with goats, allowing players to enjoy their harvest of meat and pelts to further their gains asa Van der Linde gangoutlaw.

How to Find Goats
Alpine Goats are a rather common find inRed Dead Redemption 2, and players can head across the American plains to discover their herbivore hunt grazing on grass across various farms and ranches. There is a guaranteed spot where players can find goats inRed Dead Redemption 2, and that will be at Larned Sod, a landmark in the Heartlands just West of Emerald Ranch. At this location, it’s almost a promise that a few domesticated and semi-wild goats will roam the grassy fields. These goats in particular are easy pickings, and the farmer on this land won’t mind the slaughter, so long as players are keeping off his property. Even if the rancher does mind, he’s only one man, so feel free to execute him toplay smartand avoid becoming wanted.
If players want to see other regions where they might find a goat, then they can look at the map below, which details the following areas:

Roanoke Ridge
There are alsosome distinct areas in Guarma, but players can’t bring their loot back from this location, so it’s best to only hunt them here if players are trying to get further progress in their Zoologist achievement, which requires them to study every animal across all states in Story Mode.
How to Get Perfect Goat Pelts
Whilst studying one of these goats is great for the Zoologist achievement, other players mightwant to hunt the animalfor its bountiful harvest, especially when it comes tofinding the perfect goat, which is indicated by aiming at one and discovering the highlighted three stars at the bottom right of the screen. When a goat has 3 stars, it means it can provide a perfect pelt, so players best take extra care in their shot, as the wrong weapon or faulty aim could cause the pelt to deteriorate and worsen in worth and rarity.
Whilst most goats are domesticated, it’s best to keep a reasonable distance so that they do not run away. Players should aim their repeaters or binoculars at the animals so that they can see the rarity. Upon doing so,players will need to use a repeater or a bow with poison arrows or improved arrows for a clean kill, which will not damage the pelt.A clean kill involves an instant-kill shot, like in the head.

Alternatively, players can use a lasso on the goat to keep it still as they approach, allowing them to select B/Circle to go in for a pristine killwith their knife. It’s also worth noting that players should double-check their ammo type before taking a shot, as nothing ruins a pelt more than an accidental explosive round, but players are free to use other types of ammo as they see fit.Players can also enter into Dead Eye to see the animal’s specific vitals, highlighted by the red pulse, and allow this mode to shoot the animal for them for 100% accuracy.
All Perfect Goat Pelt Items
There will be a few instances inRed Dead Redemption 2where players might be asking where to find goats, and the most common reason will be due to the potential of crafted items that they can get if they have a perfect goat pelt. Requiring a pristine pelt and a few other goodies, players can craft a select amount of clothing items at the Trapper that can see them excel at their trade. On top of having a perfect goat pelt from skinning the animal, players will also have a few gristly muttons to eat or sell, as well as a goat carcass to sell offfor a few extra dollars.
Yet, on top of this, players might be wondering why it’s worth keeping a pristine goat pelt hitched on the back of a horse, and these items might answer that:
