With the recent inclusion of Byleth fromFire Emblem: Three Houses,Super Smash Bros. Ultimatehas just concluded the roster of characters available in “Fighters Pass 1.” While many have expressed varying opinions of the characters featured in this first season of DLC,there is still a great deal of potentialwithin the second Fighters Pass. While the first Fighters Pass graced us with numerous unexpected and beloved third party video game icons, there is a specific type of character whom we’ve yet to see inUltimate’s DLC: Villains.

Yes, the bad boys of gaming have been criminally underrepresented acrossSmash’s lineage, with the first entry in the series containing no villains, whileMeleeonly added three. So today we’re going to talk about the dastardly antagonists of Nintendo who’ve yet to have their spot in the sun in our favorite ten Nintendo villains we want to see as DLC inSuper Smash Bros Ultimate!
10Pokey
TheMotherseries has garnered a very strong reputation as well as a cult following of many devoted fans. Between its unique brands of storytelling and humor, there are few RPGs like theMother Series. Despite its following and acclaim, the series only has two representatives from the series, each being the protagonists of their respective entries. As a main antagonist within two entries in the series, Pokey is one of the most iconic villains that the series has to offer. Fighting by utilizing a robot that he pilots, Pokey would have the potential to be a very unique fighter that could introduce even more players to games likeEarthboundandMother 3.
9Fawful
Despite the numerous games within its series, theMario and Luigiseries of RPGs has yet to have a definitive representative inSuper Smash Bros.While numerous characters form the series are simply mainstay members of the Mario cast, theMario and Luigiseries possesses numerous distinct characters that have not appeared outside of the RPGs.

One such character is a recurring antagonist, Fawful. First appearing inMario and Luigi: Superstar Sagaas the sidekick to the game’s primary villain, Fawful would go on to appear in numerous entries in the series such asMario and Luigi: Partners in TimeandMario and Luigi:Bowser’s Inside Story.
8The Black Knight
While many may riot in the streets at the prospect of anotherFire Emblemrepresentative inSmash,across the eightFire Emblemcharacters now inSmash,not a single one of them is a villain. While we are not suggesting that The Black Knight take a roster slot from another more unique character, The Black Knight is a perfect candidate for an echo-fighter of Ike. In the instance that an echo-fighter based DLC is ever a possibility,Fire Emblem’s Black Knight is the first character we’d hope to see.
7King Hippo
As much as we’d love the prospects of playing as the original final boss of the firstPunch Out, Mike Tyson himself, there is no more iconic of Little Mac’s opponents than King Hippo.

One of the onlyPunch Outfighters who doesn’t hail from an actual location, this Hippo Island native is often viewed as one of the most archetypal villains of the NES era. Likely able to super-armor through attacks by using his massive gut, King Hippo could likely serve as a heavyweight combination of Little Mac and King K. Rool.
6Tom Nook
Anyone whose played anAnimal Crossinggame can attest that Tom Nook is the closest thing to a villain thatAnimal Crossinghas to offer. While not a conventional villain, Tom Nook is the type of man (or racoon) who sustains himself off of debt, continuously keeping players locked in an endless loop of paying off and gaining more housing-related debt. Though Nook does not fight, neither do either of the current members of theSmashroster hailing fromAnimal Crossing, and withAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, well, on the horizon, Tom Nook could make a good fit for Fighters Pass 2.
5Captain Syrup
While Wario is most often known for either his status as Mario’s rival or through his endevours in theWarioWareseries, he also has starred in his own platformers in the form of theWario Landseries. In this series, Wario has his own arch-nemesis in the form of a pirate by the name of Captain Syrup.

With a level of greed that rivals even that of Wario, Captain Syrup has appeared in every entry in the Wario Land series and could be a very unexpected addition to the cast. And to top it all off, she would have the distinction of being the first female villain to be playable inSmash!
4Ganon
Not to be confused with Ganondorf, the original Ganon had appeared in numerous entries in theLegend of Zeldaseries. While Ganondorf’s final smash turns him into his large beast form fromLegend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time,the inclusion of the original blue, pig faced, spear toting master of evil could be a unique and unexpected throwback. Seeing that there have been numerous rumors regrading the inclusion of an NES era representative, the inclusion of the villain of one of the most popular games for the NES could have potential to be a solid pick, differentiating himself by using elements from earlier entries in the series.
3Marx
Though theKirbyfranchise currently hasSmashreps in the form of Kirby, Meta Knight, and Dedede, the latter have since taken on the roles of rivals rather than their villainous personas they had in their earliest appearances. However, Marx ofKirby: Superstaris an iconic kirby villain who few could forget.

He starts off cute and adopts a monstrous form upon absorbing huge amounts of power. Seeing how near and dear theKirbyfranchise is toSmashcreator Masahiro Sakurai, as he created both franchises, it could be a solid addition to the series.
2Black Shadow
Since the first entry in the series, Captain Falcon andSuper Smash Bros.have gone hand in hand. To many players, Captain Falcon is more of aSmashicon than he is an icon of his own series. Seeing how popular Captain Falcon became due to his unique flair and moveset, it’s surprising that this popularity has yet to be capitalized upon. Black Shadow, Captain Falcon’s arch-nemesis from theF-Zerofranchise, totes a Batman-esque design and is a completely blank slate when it comes to his moveset, just like Captain Falcon was in the firstSuper Smash Bros.
1Waluigi
By and large one of the most requested characters to be added toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis Waluigi. Though he’s never appeared in a main-series Mario title, throughout his appearances in sports spin offs andMario Partygames, Waluigi has managed to weasel his way into the hearts of many. What Waluigi lacks in physical strength, fighting ability, or well, importance, he makes up for by being the biggest underdog in the Mushroom Kingdom. Perhaps he could utilize elements from the sports and party games that he calls home within his moveset.
